Just wondering,
It is desirable to have a light body weight of under 4 lbs, but would that take away from the resonance and sustain?
Are there any cons?

It depends on so many other variables that its incomprehensible.

Mike ELdred said that most masterbuilders prefer heavier bodies on strats, why I dont know. Sometimes people just like to feel that their carrying something. I've a couple of featherweights and one monster weighted tele (Just shy of 11lbs). The sustain difference is negligible. Different guitars I know but show how weight does or doesnt affect sustain as well as anything else.

I think most strat bodies come in at around the 4lbs mark.

My body weight is about 235 and I seem to be sustaining that quite well!

I'm sorry... I had to do that.

I agree with nik. alot of variable things that would effect resonate and sustain. Type wood, electronics, etc.,. I prefer the lite weight for my old back.

Wow - big guys! I'm about 5'10", touching 164 and trying to lose about 10 pounds.

I guess if the theory is right that means I'll have less sustain later - I'll let you know...

C'mon now you need more weight for better sustain. I'm 5'11" 320lbs. Not that's some mass!!!

Gibson LP's sound better heavier. My LP weighs in at 10lbs.

My Strat's weigh quite a bit less. I should weigh them.

Did you read the Bonemassa interview in Guitarist magazine a few months back. He reckons he had to re-learn how to sing after losing weight. It affected his sustain.

All these opera prima donna's that look like battleships and are of comparable size. They have excellent sustain.

Should my girth keep expanding I'll be rivaling Pavaroti on the sustain front soon. I'll probably never equal his pie arm technique though.

My missus has gone on the bananas and coconut diet. She hasnt lost any weight, you ought to see her climb trees though.

Nuts to sustain - I just need to learn to sing! At all!!!

If I ever need to re-learn after weight loss - well hey, that would just be a bonus!

PS Apologies to the OP, znagle22. I'm not usually quite such a bad thread hijacker as this...
