...well the body says 10/54, the neck says 1/55...so it's really a '55.
I always thought it was a '54 because of the body cavity date, then I took the neck off...

I've owned it for about 30 years. It was advertised in our local paper.
Recently, it became unplayable because of fretwear, so I had it refretted. Thankfully I listened to the luthier and had him use the correct fretwire, I was tempted to use a little bigger fret.

Other than that, it is stock. Since the refret, it's a fabulous player. I own two other Strats, a '74 that I...well, my Parents bought it for me brand new, and an '08 Highway One.

Of my 3 Strats, the '54 easily the lightest.

Here are some pics of my...54:

Man if that is a true 55 which im pretty certain just going on the dates that having one date that late in the year and the other that early would make it a 55 ..But there is others far more qualified than me to say for sure..

But either way that guitar is in incredible condition for something of that age..It must have been well cared for..

I'm curious i own a 73 Strat how does the 55 compare tone wise to your 74 if you can explain it ...

The oldest Strat i have ever played was a 68 and even in the 5 year difference between my 73 and the 68 the tone difference was huge..

I say it's a '54 as a joke, I know it's a 55.
For the longest time I never had the neck off, then when I did, I saw that it's really a 55.

That really is a lovely 55. Kept really well too.

Oh to be one of the lucky ones. You really dont know how much envy I'm feeling at the moment.

Was it mid 50's that they caught the guy writing profanities on the neck heel/pocket or was that 58? Whatever the year they stopped any neck/pocket markings for a while.

You know... That's REALLY old! I'll tell ya what... since it's so old, I'll do you a favor and give you $100 for it just so you get some of the cost of the refret back. You know... because I'm such a nice guy and all. I won't even ask to play it first.

Seriously... you sure know how to make someone envious! That is beautiful! 8)

Wow, what a sensational looking old Strat. I'm definitely envious. Thanks for sharing the pics.

It was late 50's, I have seen some '59's without any markings on the neck.

Absolutely fabulous, like no other Strat I've heard.
It sounds great unplugged too.
I'll have to get around to posting a video...
I've been tempted to do it, but I'm too lazy...
I'll see if I can get around to it this week, although
the audio won't be great, it'll be OK.
I've got the gear to record it on DAW,
then match vid to the audio, but that's a lotta work.

So if I do this, what amp would you like to hear it through?
A '61 Showman...maybe with a '65 Reverb unit?
A '68 Twin, '69 Super, '68 Deluxe Rvb, '68 Princeton Rvb...?

Which amp would give the true tone?

I'm thinkin' the '61 Showman...alone...

The showman sounds good to me, by the way, that $100,000. I lent you a couple years back......

Theres only one real tone for a 54/55 strat.

A line6 Pod xt set on uber gain, into p.a then 6 2x15 bass cabs.

Arnie seriously why not do a few options. Gotta cure that laziness.
