Hi all! Nice place here!

I have just brought a MIM strat which needs new saddles, the previous owner seems to have put vintage Fender ones on there, or should I say has he had crammed them on there.

I like the Graphtech stuff, so I'm thinking that the 2 1/16" are the way to go on a MIM strat?

These are what I am looking at.

Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the heads up, just out of interest how do you date your strat? Mine is a MIM sunburst strat, but I'm not sure what year it is?

Look at the serial number. It goes either MZX or MNX (where X=0-9). If it has the Z, the year is 200X; or, if it has the N, it is 199X ... where X=the number from your guitar's SN. Make sense?

I actually checked with Graphtech on my Roadhouse Strat (which comes with Vintage Saddles, btw) Here's what I was told...

"Thanks for your email. I looked into your guitar and see that is has a vintage style tremolo on it. You would need the PS-8000-F0.

Another great option would be a Supercharger Kit. This is a great value. It comes with a set of String Saver saddles. These saddles will reduce your string breakage, improve your tuning stability, add midrange depth and increase sustain. It also comes with a Black TUSQ XL precision slotted nut, Black TUSQ XL string trees and two grits of sandpaper to fine tune the fit of your nut. Because the nut and string trees are Teflon impregnated you will improve your tuning stability. Simply put this kit will dramatically improve the tone and performance of your guitar. You would need the PX-8000-F0.

I have to debate this simply because of my '96 MIM. Just my always and ever so humble opinion here of course but I think the best way to date a Strat is to pull the neck and look at the date stamps. Dating a Strat by the serial number is fine for a generalization but in the case of my MIM had I went by the serial number, it indicates my Strat is a '92 where as both the neck and body are stamped "Feb 96"...and my wife did buy the guitar for me brand new in the summer of '96.

Another example is the MIJ Strat I picked up a few months ago...being an "E series" the only info you can find based on the serial number alone is that it was probably made somewhere between '84 and '87. The neck stamp however clearly indicates (that the neck at least) was made in '85 (no stamp in the neck pocket of the body).

So again just my opinion here but if you really want to know for sure when the guitar was made, check the dates stamps as apposed to the serial number...in many cases the serial number can be off by a few years.

Peace,
Jim
