I just got a Classic Player 60's strat off a guy i know . Its a really great guitar but why does it have a Neck plate that says "fender corona california" ?

Did they run out of blanks or just "fender" ones at the factory????

Thanks

If the neckplate says "Corona, California" then the odds that its a real CP 60's are pretty slim. Post us some pics and we will tell you :)

It should have a "Custom Shop Designed" plate on it. That was a one of the main unique features of that guitar.

Well its got the 60's badge on the back of the headstock

It looks like the 2nd one from the top - http://images.google.ie/imgres?imgurl=h ... n%26sa%3DG

But it only has the 4 screw holes and not the thing at the bottom middle of it

An american neckplate without the microtilt on a mexican guitar that should have a 'custom shop designed' neckplate, sounds very suspect to me. It could be highway one, I'm not sure whether they have the microtilt hole or not.

Can you not upload a picture of the guitar in question to a picture hosting site like flickr or photobucket?

You should ask the guy from whom you bought it about that neck plate.

It's a five minute replacement job ....

The neck plate that should be on that guitar the "Custom shop designed" one is probably not on it because they can be sold on ebay for between 35 and 90 dollars, the "Corona Ca" fetch 2 to 20 dollars,so the previous owner probably just wanted to decrease his loss on the insturement by selling what he could to the highest bidder.

Sounds like the plate was swapped out. Might be worth a thorough inspection to see what else might also have been changed.

The fretboard is also wrong for a Classic Player 60s. I have never seen one with a maple board. I suppose the neck could have been changed, but why?
