If you are talking about a buzz present when unplugged that's normal. If you mean a buzz you can hear through the amp then you have a problem. Could be the action is too low but since it's only one string it's more likely there's a high spot on one or more of the frets further up the neck. Also you don't mention if you're using standard tuning or not. Any guitar with drop tuning will have an increased risk of fret buzz even if you adjust your setup to compensate for the reduced string tension.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

What changes have you made? New strings? Same gauge?

Check that the guitar plays without buzz on that string right down the rest of the neck.

Hold down the string at the 3rd fret (close to the second fret).
Bounce the short space of string just above the first fret wire.

If it doesn't bounce there then the nut is either too low or that first fret is sitting high. In either case its buzzing on the first fret. I would take it into a luthier if thats the case. If the guitars new take it back.

If it just buzzes when its played open somewhere in the middle of the fretboard then the action height may need tweaking. Try raising the height on that bridge saddle a fraction. Detune before you do this.

Make sure you trim the strings at the tuners so they don't vibrate against anything. Replace the string if you have any further issues.

Put your hand on the string.

Seriously, with the A string, how many winds around the tuning post do you have and are these winds neatly and directly one under the other? Sometimes in situations like your's, simply too few winds around the post and/or winds in a non-descending or scatterwound order can cause your problem as there isn't enough of a break angle (downward pressure) on the string from the nut to the tuner to seat the string snugly in the nut slot.

The nut slot could be a bit too wide for the string.Have you changed to a lighter gauge string lately? If so that could do it.
