Worth the loot? Seller states "a few minor dings", which i have asked for pictures of. Also, is that case the orginal?

I had one for a spell.
Pretty guitar.

Ultimately I didn't care for the SCN pups and the S1 switching system and with the rear routing I knew there would be no way to try anything new while keeping the original system intact so rather than devalue the guitar by desoldering I chose to replace the guitar. It was a shame to see it go but I wasn't playing it because I didn't like the sound of the pups. They don't make those any more and they may some day be collectible due to the rare features like the ebony board for example.

I'm curious, what type of music did you play with it whilst you owned it? Or did it matter, you just didn't like the sound? And you are saying that it was the pups you didn't care for not the tone of the wood, correct?

thanks,

Blues, Classic Rock, Newer Rock, Seattle style stuff, occasional Folk/Rock. Pretty wide range of styles.

I already had (and still have) a 1998 Am Del Fat Strat (ash/Rosewood).
I bought the '04 (AD QMT HSS exactly like the one in the link above) thinking I would gig with it primarily and keep the '98 on stage as a backup in the event of a problem such as a broken string or whatever because the '04 was so pretty and the '98 was so ordinary. I set them both up with identical everything: relief, action, bridge float, pickup height, strings. After a few months I began to realize I liked the sound of the '98 better and so the '04 became the backup. I fiddled with the setup on the '04 for a few months but eventually settled on the notion it must be the SCNs that I didn't like as much. They were fine enough but I just liked the '98 better. The band split up 2 years ago and I lost interest in finding another band so I began thinning my gear collection and decided that pretty or not the'04 had to go. I still have the '98 and prolly won't ever sell it. Instead of the '04 I bought a cheap Korean SSS as a test bed guitar.

Man but it's pretty, though.

If you look at the edge you can see that it is a proper 4mm thick steam bent top, not a veneer. Looks like a thin layer of a darker wood between the top and the back as well - was that the usual thing on the Am Deluxe? I like it!

I'm seeing locking strap buttons, Schallers I think. Were those standard on that model, or is that a user mod? Dunno whether that is the original case or not. I have no useful input on the pups.

The buy-it-now price is high-ish, but not unfair. A nice guitar for the money if you decided to go for it - very good for the eyes!

Cheers - C

The guitar came from the factory with Schaller Strap Locks.
Mine also came with a brown G&G case which causes me some concern over this eBay auction as it looks like a standard issue Fender case. Maybe my year was special due to the 50th anniversary but I don't know that for sure. The neck plate did say 50th anniversary.

I can't verify the top thickness or the presence of a sandwich layer The burst color scheme on mine graduates into an opaque brown that covers the edges and back.

Yes I see it now on the guitar for sale. They must have changed the color scheme sometime after 2004 because on mine you couldn't make out the grain at the very outer edges of the maple top as it was already opaque by that point.

This is the only pic I have of that guitar. I took it so I'd have something to post in the for sale ad. It's funny that I didn't notice until just now that the finish was only opaque along the top edge of the guitar, meaning what you can see when you're playing it. Now that it's gone I can't remember if you could see the glue line on the lower edge but I don't think you could as I do recall never really knowing how thick the top was.

Blurry, I know. Light was poor so the exposure was long and I was in a hurry that day so I didn't keep trying. I really need a tripod, I guess. I always forget to buy one when I'm in the city shopping.

I have read, somewhere or another, the thin layer between the bent top is ebony, then alder beneath.

I don't believe the case to be orginal, although the ad proclaims orginal. I could be incorrect, but the cases where/are brown with that paricular guitar. Unless of course they changed them for the anniversary models.

The strap locks are Schallers and orginal to that model as well.

Peace,
