I'm not looking to provoke anyone or start any kind of argument. I just think that judging a guitars finish is a pretty pointless activity. Yeah I have my favourite colours, but if the guitar next to it in a colour i didnt like played better. Theres no way I'd buy the guitar in the colour of my choosing. Its just not important.

As far as women go, yeah I used to go for lookers. Soon as I grew up though I realized there was a lot more to women than a shovel full of makeup and hairspray.

I have heard (read) a few complaints about the lack of functionality of the hardware on a Relic. The Custom Shop did too good of a job and the owners weren't able to make adjustments on their new guitars (eg bridge saddle height and intonation adjustments). So it may be a good idea to really check out a heavy Relic before you buy it.

Or else you will have to get creative to make the adjustments and keep the Relic look ...

This is PRECISELY what I am worried about, and have been thinking would be the case. I am definitely going to check them out in person, but I would think that rust and oxidation would adversely affect functionality. I know some are relic'ed more than others and each instrument is unique, however overall I don't trust this. I think I'll stick with the NOS.

Shame they stopped doing the Closet Classic finish; I think it was the perfect in-between. My CC's hardware is shiny and tight, and the only "relic-ing" are some finish checks- which look cool as hell to me. The guitar plays like BUTTAH, and feels brand-new but a hair broken-in. The Closet Classic finish is just awesome, in my humble opinion.

Thanks to all for sharing your thoughts and insight; I appreciate it. Enjoy the rest of the weekend!!

No worries there mate...as I said, just playing devil's advocate more than anything really to make a point. Actually as I'm sure I've mentioned in the past a few times, that's actually why I got my '96...at the time I really wasn't all that crazy about the Lake Placid Blue at all...it really did take quite a while for the color to grow on me. Still, more often times than not....for me at least there is usually something that is visually appealing that first catches my attention. Conversely I'm not inclined to pick up an instrument that I don't think is particularly attractive either. My local GC currently has a Custom Shop Strat that someone traded in...that sucker is just the ungodly "copper" color. Really horrid to say the least. Being a CS I'm absolutely sure it plays well and sounds great but that sucker is just buttass ugly to say the least so I've never even picked it up (not to mention I can't afford it! LOL!).

Again I do in fact agree with it...I would never have married a woman who was "all looks". Again though, call me shallow but I'm not the kind of guy who can just toss the proverbial bag over her head either. Fortunately my wife has looks and brains....-and- she's a musician (not to mention she puts up with my sorry butt!). Yes...I'm a very lucky man and I know it :-)

Peace,
Jim
