I think this has been discussed not too long ago, but I never saw a definitive answer.

How tight do you need to tighten the keys on a strat?

I always thought it was just until you don't hear a rattle, but now I see people saying "finger tight". (exactly how tight is finger tight btw?)

If you have trouble moving the tuning keys, it is not finger tight. Basically you want it snug, but don't strip the "+" in the screw. I have never taken a torsion bar to one to find out what "finger tight" is, I just thought it was self-explainatory.
