Funny you mention a black beauty, I've just been looking at a Epi one of them. Very nice and frets over the binding too.

Them anodized pickguards cost the earth over here. £40 odd last time I looked. Very classy though, and they look great worn too.

Perhaps I ought to explore ideas involving flatulent bacteria as a way of making enough money to afford one.

Yeah that's a nice color combination. Is the pickguard metal? Or plastic?

I have a 87 black squier I wouldn't mind doing that to, right now it has black pickup covers and black knobs, but a white pickguard. Only thing is it has the System I Tremolo so the cutout in the pickguard for the bridge needs to be a little wider than normal. So if it's metal, that would be a lot harder to alter.

It was a lovely guitar to start with but the gold pickguard makes it outstanding.

Thanks again to everyone.

JasonSD, the pickgaurd is aluminum.

I like that this pickguard sits flush against the body. The plastic/cellulose pickguards have a gap over the middle pickup most likely due to to original factory pick gaurd mounting holes being slightly off.

Niki, a bud of mine plays an Epi BB custom. They are very nice. I did notice his had frets over the binding also. I love my strat, but the Lester is very pleasing. If you end up grabbing one, post some pics. 8)
