I've recently installed some SCN pickups in my strat for the express purpose of eliminating noise. I'm still finding that when I'm in front of my computer screen it still creates a fair amount of buzz. I know it's due to the screen because if I turn side on to it or move away the hum reduces greatly.... is this to be expected?

If your pickups are grounded properly, I think its to be expected. I ground all the pots, bridge and body, as I'm sure you did. Shielding may also help.

computer monitors create hum. its a sad fact. even noiseless pickups can pick that hum up. its why you arent supposed to record anything near a computer, the monitor will create noise.

if the hum goes away when you step away from the screen, you should be ok.

CRT's shuck off electrons like crazy, and when you face one with an electric guitar those electrons are getting shot right into your pickups. Even my EMG SV's will buzz a little when held right in front of a tube-type monitor (LCD monitors don't do this).

Hum can be caused by not only computer monitors but TV's, Major appliances (such as refrigerators), and certain lghts.
Shielding does help some. Running a dedicated circuit for your amp will also help.
