Hello,

I need some help identifying this strat please! Or if it even is a real Fender, I hope it is, or at least some of it. I bought it last week, it arrived this morning and I've spent all afternoon taking it part and trying to work out what the bloody hell it is!

It came in a nice tatty brown case, I have no idea where it's from, when it was made, can't seem to find any others like it. It's a brown hard shell case with a small Fender logo by the handle and three catches which have 'Simmons Fastener USA' embossed on them, the inside is dark brown fur..

The neck is giving me a headache too, it has a Fender logo with the PAT numbers beneath it and the stratocaster wording is mostly worn away, the logo looks genuine, no signs of it being a decal. The two string trees look very Japanese, I have a MIJ Squier with the same ones. The current tuners are Kluson style, but there's evidence of grover style ones which were probably the originals...
There aren't any signs of a serial number anywhere on the neck, on the heel there is a faint Fender stamp and a pencilled on date that looks like it says MA W 1962...

The body also has the same Fender stamp as the neck printed in the neck pocket. I'm becoming less convinced these are genuine stamps...
The body looks like it was originally routed for three single coils, and someone has had a go at routing out a space for a humbucker at the bridge, not sure what wood it is made from, quite heavy though...
One of the pots has Made In Japan stamped on it, theres a 5way switch, and the pickups have staggered pole pieces, two of which are missing their covers. The bridge and trem are not stamped.

I've just noticed on the back of the body, where the neck plate goes there are 5 little indentations which indicate a serial number, but the current neckplate is blank...

And thats all the info at the moment! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
