Hi.
Can anyone tell me what material is used for the nut on my new deluxe ash?
I have done a search on the forums with no luck. Thanks

Its a very hard plastic made to simulate bone. Same on all modern fender guitars unless stated.

Hi thanks for the quick reply.
I thought it looked as if it was plastic.
I found on the first few tries on the whammy bar that the tuning was a bit suspect. I used some Big Bends Nut Sauce which seems to have rectified this problem.
I suppose the guitar will need playing to settle in. It has been several years since I had a spanking new guitar.
Thanks again..........

Heres a tip for you. Dont waste anymore money on nutsauce. There are far cheaper but equally as good substances to use knocking around the house.
Vaseline is a favourite by most. Its pretty much what nutsauce is, you pay for the nutsauce fancy applicator. That syringe is handy though.

My personal favourite is to use dental floss. The really thick waxy kind (oralB). Simply tear a length off, double it over a couple of times and floss your nutslots. The floss cleans the grime out, the wax smooths the slots over and your nut ends up smelling minty fresh.

All you really need are smooth slots. Thats what all the graphite, wax, vaseline solutions do. They fill out the crevices in the slot that you cant see. The rest of the gunk wears away.

Glad you got it sorted out. look after your nuts and they'll look after you.

Thanks for the floss tip I will try that.
The Sauce was a free sample I acquired. I have used vaseline before though.
I was a bit surprised that the strings were pinging as they traveled through the nut on a new guitar. Perhaps it's just me?

My strings pinged too on the guitar I got a couple of weeks ago. I used the old graphite trick. I also used a little 3-in-1 oil on the saddles and on the tree. Now it's ping free. Wish the oil worked on the pickups to eliminate the hum.

Ok I'm sorry. I'm just far too childish to avoid a chance at making bad innuendo's.

Yes I used to do that. Pencil lead is basicaly graphite. It does work well but is hard to get into the high E&B slots. Also it makes the nut look mucky with that grey staining. Thats why I first used the dental floss, to get rid of the horrible grey. Thats how I found the wax from it lubricating the slot.

+1 for nikininja's waxed dental floss. I also used to use a pencil, with "meh" results. Now, the floss is the boss!

"Nothing, honey, just flossing my nutslots...!"

Nutsauce is really just vaseline? eewww.

A bit dissapointing nowdays a custom ash doesn´t come with a real bone nut.
That´s one of many reasons I preferred building my own "custom ash strat" with a good luthier. Mine has bone.
Billy, congrats on your guitar. Maybe a local luthier can install a bone nut.
I love ash strats, can u share a pic or 2?
this is mine:
