I have a 95' Strat Plus, and I just figured out that it has the TBX tone controls. From what I've read, there seems to be some that believe the factory installed settings aren't too useful, but there is a mod you can do that will make the TBX much more useful. I am wondering if it's worth it to do the mod, and what the difference will be. Anyone have any insight? Thx for the help!

Here's a mod I tried with the TBX. Its not really any better or worse, just different.

As I said before I'm in 2 minds about the TBX. If the 5 possition was just like 10 on a regular tone control, I'd prefer it. It seems usefull if you can set your amp with that bit more treble and use the TBX to move into it. Its too minimal a change from 5-10 as opposed to a tone pot. The regular tone pot side of it is too compacted. If you can deal with that its a good tool.

From what I understand, the problems that were being expressed were with pickups other than Lace.

I tried the mod Niki posted with regular passives and pulled them back out for the same reasons he described. From 0-5 was a quick spike, 5-10 was barely noticeable. Once I wired back to a normal setup I found the tone knob much more manageable.

However, in My Strat Plus, I like the TBX. I never felt the need to change it.
