Is there a way to get a Tremolo Arm Spring for my Strat? I don't think I've ever had one, but they are small enough not to notice and lose.

Anyway, I'm tired of my Trem arm falling down. Any suggestions?

Fender sells replacement springs. You can buy a bag of 12 from places like Music Zoo for about 6 bucks. (There's a reason they sell them in bags of 12) For that reason alone, I've learned to live without them.

If the trem arm is a screw in type, as most vintage arms are, you can tighten that arm down enough to keep it stiff wherever you want it. You don't want to strip it though, so just enough to keep it tight.

Otherwise I've read other forumites say that they keep some maskign tape handy and when they take of the arm put the tape over the hole to keep it from coming out. If you can remember to keep your Strat flat in the case when you take off and reinsert the arm then you can bypass the tape. (me, not so much) now, uhh where was I....

I'm not really a trem user so I just left the spring behind that little silver sticker

I've gotten along without a trem spring in my 65 and MIM Strats for years with no problem,I don't think they really make that much difference. My 50th Ann. Strat has one and I haven't lost it(yet)you just have to remember not to over tighten the arm.

I put a little piece of tape over the spring hole to keep it where it belongs when the bar is out. As mentioned above their easy enough to replace.

For the longest time I didn,t even know there was a spring in there. I can remember finding this little spring siting on the ground and tryin to find where it went. It use to drive me crazey. None of my strats have them in but I don,t use my trem either.

A spring is supposed to go in there? ;-)

I like my trem arms free falling.

Same here, I use the trem often and dont have a spring, dont see the need. I screw the arm all the way then back up a turn or two.

Thanks for all the replies. It hasn't been a real issue, I've been getting by just fine. It would be nice to have one though. I'll just order a bag of springs.

Thanks.

Lay the guitar flat and put a drop of glue in the hole and a quick poke with a chopstick to hold the spring in place while the glue drys.

Magic!

If your afraid of glue a little piece of electric tape wrapped around the spring. Just enough so you have to put a bit of pressure to get it in there.

To recover it use a fine piece of fencing wire. You can put small V shaped bend on the end and fish it out if you have to.

I picked up a couple from eBay for a couple of bucks shipped Down Under to Oz.

I dropped the spring in the hole, screwed the whammy in, whammed (?) with it a couple of times and promptly removed it again.... Can't see myself using it all that much as I practice and learn so I took it off again. My Strat looks nicer with it off any way....

I tipped my guitar up and shook it but the spring is staying in there! Might just leave it and see if it works itself loose or I might just stick a bit of tape over it and forget it!

I can say that with the spring in there it does hold the whammy bar in any position you like. I was actually surprised by how well a little spring worked.
