Howdy,
I went into my local store to try out a Classic Player 50's strat after hearing that they had the 57/62 pups in them. I'd also heard that these could achieve a very similar tone to Mayer. Not to mention I am a maple neck fan and I love shoreline gold. But unfortunately the store didn't have any in.
So my question is, how close do the 57/62 actually come to achieving a Mayer tone, or even a tone similar to the Big Dippers? What are the differences between them tone wise?
Also if anybody wants to tell me about the pro's and con's of their Classic Player 50's, please do.

Any replies appreciated

FYI John Mayer doesn't actually use the big dippers in his personal guitars, so getting his sig won't make you sound like him, in fact nothing will. However you can cop a similar tone with just about any strat if you have the right technique and a decent rig. There is a video of Mayer on youtube playing through a Fender HRD and he still sounds like Mayer. So just get you a good strat and decent amp and you are mostly there. BTW I have a JM strat and I have played guitars with the 57/62s and they sound nothing like the BDs IMO

I agree with the above, I got those Klien S-5 pickups on Christmas looking for the JM scooped tone, they nail it. I've never tried the 57/62's though, but I think the pickups in The Black One are more of a mix between the big dippers and the CS69's

See I was more looking to buy a strat with the pickups already in them, but I can always swap them out.
I always just thought those 57/62 had a John Mayer tone seeing as people like Chanman off of this board uses them in his replica of Johns relic guitar.
I do love the big dippers but I'm not really bothered about getting their tone, more so just a tone comparable to Johns. I do have his Where The Light Is DVD so I am aware of when he uses his Black one and when he uses his Sig strat.
I guess i could just invest in the the neck pickup from that Klien scooped mid set, should I begin desiring the big dipper tone some more.

Yeah they do sound pretty much along the voicing I'm after.
I tried the Classic Player 50's strat today though and it sounded #$@*&!% amazing. Some guy came over and told me I sold him his new guitar because it sounded amazing while I was playing it haha.
I really love the 57/62's but have been a Big Dipper fan for so long that I feel like I do need those Klein's
