The nut can be replaced but it is not a, "1,2 3" type procedure. It involves removing wood in order to get to the nut to replace it and then, restoring the removed wood. This task is better left to the pros.

Well, considering replacing the truss rod nut will be less than the cost of a new neck, the operative question here is: Is your current neck's overall condition (including the frets and string nut) such that you would want to save the neck instead of springing for a whole new one? Further, you have to keep in mind that even with a new neck, there will be additional costs incurred other than just buying it and slapping it onto the body as they do not come in, "good to go" condition. The neck will need to be finished for protection from the elements, it must be mounted onto the body and hopefully, it will be a perfect fit; the frets usually need some final touches, the nut will have to be cut, the machine heads (and possibly string tree) will have to be installed, etc; you get the idea.

It's your call but if you want my opinion, all things (especially financially) considered, I'd salvage the one I have now. YMMV.

The guitar was not played very much not a scratch on it the neck is perfect and the releif is only at .02 at the 8 th fret it is still a great playing guitar and I just might leave it alone just thought I get an opinion on it!

In the Oct.&Nov, 09 issues of Vintage Guitar mag there's an excellent step by step article on replacing a truss rod.He does it on a 56 Strat but it would probably be suitable for any guitar especially Strats.Back issues are only $6 each and you can order them at 1-800-844-1197 or www.vintageguitar.com or vguitar@vguitar.com or fax 701-255-0250.I hope this info is helpful..Good luck.
