i'm a very happy gibson owner and i love my guitar to death but i do have to admit that gibson's tuning can be a nuisance.

i see it like the vg; why carry multiple guitars to a gig with each one tuned differently when u could have just one guitar 8)

It's probably more of a publicity thing for Gibson than a practical product. Something that grabs attention and headlines.

The whole Fender vs Gibson thing is just silly. I love my Strat and my Les Paul equally, just not at the same time. Some weeks I love my strat, then pickup the LP and the change in feel and sound inspires me and then i'm in love with it. Then I pick up the strat days later and fall back in love with it. Then I pick up my acoustic and... Well you get the picture. :)

i think Gibson should stick to making their usual because u cant beat the classics. Gibson SG standard for example u can never go wrong with 1 of those. plus they barely get out of tune anyway. but come 2 think of it, it would be nice for gigs and different tuning. ill never be buyin 1 though.

It kinda reminds me of the VG Strat...hmmm

Well, both the Robot Guitar and VG Strat would be fun to play around on, but I think the guitar should stay a simple instrument.

the robot looks cool and i bet it has that gibson sound. but its too bad cause its not a fender. lol

i think the technology vg uses is incredible and i think the robot is also too, but it takes a guitarist to play a fine instrument. an instrument can say a lot but its the musician that is ultimately criticized.

also, whats next? the guitar can tune itself. give it ten years and the guitar will play itself... no need for a musician. lol

Speaking of playing itself....

Did anyone see the video of that Japanese robot playing the violin this week? Robots are taking all the jobs and soon they'll play all the gigs.

FWIW, this isn't unique to Gibson nor was it developed by them they're just marketing it from the factory. I was browsing around a little bit the other day and that the whole thing was developed by a company in Europe someplace and has been on the market for a year or so. Supposedly as a universal kit. For $800 plus whatever your tech charges to install it you can have a robot strat if you want.

Yetch, so much more to break.

And when the micro-servos pack it in the modern Gibson owners will have no clue how to manually tune their guitars or set the intonation.

I can see this progressing too, soon all Gibbons will just have 5 colored buttons on the neck and no strings.

That is a good point, I wonder how it would hold up to a few hundred gigs..?

For crying out loud how often does your guitar start flying out of tune? And when it does, how hard is it to stomp on your pedal and tune it?
This idea is $$$ driven and bogus.

Or if the rotary knob thing is stuck in the tune position so every time a note is played the thing starts to retune. lol

ive had one a week now and love playing it the tuning only works if the tone pot is pulled out each string can be disengaged iindividually from the tuning system very easily gravity jim had the best take on its purpose and most of the problem scenairos discussed i cant see happening if the whole system breaks you have a nice les paul that can be tuned just like any other guitar
