i've heard tell about a way to wire fenders to eliminate some (most?... all?) of the noise you get from the single coil pu's. i have a strat and a tele, both mim, all single coil pick-ups.
anybody ever done this?

Might be hard for people to tell you without you describing which method it was.

But the most common ways I know are to shield the pickup cavity and pickups. Wire a dummy load pickup. Flick the pickup switch to Bridge/Middle or Neck/Middle. Put in a noise canceling, humbucking or noiseless pickup.

So was it one of those?

no switching pickups... strictly wiring. my buddy up in nh had his done at a shop owned and operated by an elderly man. rumor has it, clapton takes his guitars there for tune ups.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Ask you buddy what he had done. Then let us know. I don't think there is anything magical about hum/noise. Clapton must be poorer than I imagined. With all that money I would have thought he had his own guitar tech.

Here what the Suhr BPSSC System is in its original form.
You have to chop of both your hands if you make more than one of these for personal use:

And this what it looks like
