not to go off topic or anything but Len Berman the sportscaster said this:

Having worked in the news business, I've seen how it works. A big story breaks. It gets covered, and then the media moves on. Haiti doesn't and shouldn't work that way.
Word comes that at least 30 members of Haiti's soccer federation, players, refs, coaches and other officials, perished in the earthquake. The federation's headquarters collapsed.
Meanwhile, the coach of the South Dakota State basketball team, Scott Nagy, will coach shoe-less this weekend. His adopted daughter is from Haiti and he wants to raise awareness and money. He also wants to collect shoes for Haitian kids in need.
Good for coach Nagy, and for everyone else who refuses to let this news cycle die.

Trauma, you are the OP- you brought the topic to the table. Nick and I just was talking evolution- perhaps there's irony in that :)

Anyway- yeah, it is still hitting front page down here too mate- Its great to see ordinary people going without- even if it's for a game. That kind of behaviour really is community spirit :D

Just to clear up the eugenics blurb at the end of my last post, it was actually Darwin's half cousin who applied the research to human genetics. This is a paste from wiki;
The modern field and term were first formulated by Sir Francis Galton in 1883,[10] drawing on the recent work of his half-cousin Charles Darwin.[citation needed] At its peak of popularity eugenics was supported by prominent people, including Margaret Sanger,[11][12] Marie Stopes, H. G. Wells, Woodrow Wilson, Theodore Roosevelt, Emile Zola, George Bernard Shaw, John Maynard Keynes, John Harvey Kellogg, Linus Pauling[13] and Sidney Webb.[14][15][16] Its most infamous proponent and practitioner was however Adolf Hitler who praised and incorporated eugenic ideas in Mein Kampf, and emulated Eugenic legislation for the sterilization of "defectives" that had been pioneered in the United States.[17]

Albeit totally off topic, but at least clarified.

I was saw a TV documentry a few months back about an American caucasian guy who conducted a load of IQ tests on people of different ethnicity. He concluded that oriental people had the greatest mental capacity of all races. Yet the program went on to call him racist. I cant remember who the guy was. Prof' James Watson is currently spearheading this belief.
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article2677098.ece

I dont believe one is confined to the limitations of the majority of their race for one second. I believe social structure over thousands of years has more to do with it that anything else. Afterall the Orientals had schools and 500 different words for assasin whilst caucasians were still rubbing sticks together and ugging at eachother. Ok not quite but you get my drift. Their society has long been oriented towards education. The prime reason I disagree with Prof Watsons bleak outlook for Africa is that during a spell in Nigeria and later Ghana I literally saw children nearly disowned for playing up at school. Education is a very serious business out there. Theres non of the highschool pranks we know about.

You ought to get BigJay on the ethics of forced sterilization. I can honestly say he's a man of many hidden depths.

You guys are top shelf.............The info on evolution was quite enlightening. I truly think if the global community came together in times of crisis maybe we wouldn't be in a crisis :? I am also reading this post regarding Prof. Watson...I'll get back to you shortly............

I remember back in form 6 algebra class, we had a chinese boy who was 11 getting straight A's passing school cert in the subject- aswell as english class too and he hardly hit puberty yet the rest of the class were 17/18 year old age group. All the while, kids his age were still doing show and tell.

Nik, what do you make of this- found near Peru:

Kinda puts a spin on the topic doesnt it :) I watched the video on the Ark- very interesting indeed. As you put about the lightbulbs and batteries- I think ancient egyptians had a level of knowlege and intelligence that on a scale would blow our scholars to dust. Eric V Daaniken goes right into that and questions where exactly did this intelligence come from- yet it was Watt and Eddison who invented these thousands of years later..

Nicinflorida, your abysmal lack of comprehension only goes to reinforce what everyone seemsto think that you're nothing but an adversarial cerebral Lilliputian. You accused me of being a jackass and a commie when I stated that if a "democratic vote" were taken most on this forum would have you and siamese kicked off all forums as you have done nothing but get peoples backs up since you first posted.I'm sure I speak for many when I invite you to toddle off and tap dance across a mine field.
Note to all :If the letter spacing shows up funny it isn't me but the computer that has the malfunction.

Dr. Watson fails in his assertation.......A person is not limited because of his ethnic makeup................I agree with your opinion of social structure over thousands of years........certain cultures hold certain things in higher esteem than other cultures.......and education is high on the list for some.......for whatever reason be it right or wrong......and due to certain social standards other things are supressed more than they should be......

I agree- chinese education, russian ballet, orchestra and tennis- its instilled at a very young age.

Though it does create awe-inspiring talent :)

The thing that got me on the racialy dependant intellegence thing was that the original guy was called a racist for his findings. Despite he being a white guy and proclaiming asian people as having the better mental capability. I thought that was a little off. They guy did a test and found a result of which his race didnt come out top. Then he's touted as a biggot or whatever. Now ok I dont know the extenuating circumstances, or the guys personal life. But making a claim about the guys beliefs based on his findings seems like the thinking that would just hold us all back. Rather than using his findings, exploring them further and finding ways to educate or use a certain mind in a particular way.
I mean to simply take the findings then dismiss certain races from certain activities would be a terrible thing. Just think there'd only be old black guys and Robert Cray (not particularly old) playing blues. The likes of Eric Clapton and Billy Gibbons wouldnt have gotten a look in.

Hows that for getting back towards topic.

And back in the day, a "democratic vote" was taken and the "majority" thought it was a good idea to "stone" people as well for different views and opinions. Based on your post you no doubt think that was okay (sarcasm).

AGAIN, if you or anyone else insist on bringing a "hot topic" to the forum, you should EXPECT nothing less than varying opinions, either to your liking or not. So F'in accept it. But don't try to shut me up because I don't agree with you. That type of thinking is simple minded.

Your humanitarian soluton for me is, quote "I'm sure I speak for many when I invite you to toddle off and tap dance across a mine field." Do you not see the contradiction in your beliefs??? And who appointed you the speaker for many???
I must laugh at you for your effort. Therefore, I suggest that the ENTIRE topic be removed from the forum, to avoid confrontational individuals such as yourself.

Blerties, has that skull from Peru been authenticated by anthropologists or other experts in the field of simian or human development?I can recall reading about Piltdown man and it was hailed at the time by "experts" as being the"missing link" and even more bizarre when the 1st remains of a platypus were brought back to England from Australia they were dismissed as an obvious hoax cobbled together in an amateur fashion as a publicity stunt, again by"experts".I am by no means an anthropoligist but I find that cranium more than a bit suspicious.

wow, 7 pages of forum debate and all against 2 posters that dont get it.

simply put, its not your political views. its how you come across.
nicin florida, if your arguing that our tax dollars are being misused in a war, or massive company bailouts, then youd get a different reaction.
but you demonstrate your uncompasionate persona, when your arguing that the us is sending aid to haiti and using our tax dollars.
well then, 1st impressions, you come off as a prik.
second impressions, throwing back insults, well you solidify what people are thinking of your "online persona".
just chill out. compose yourself, and understand you brought this on yourself.

siamese, same goes for you. this is a forum stratocaster "community"
rarely is it strictly strats.
at times it is les pauls, at times even teles.
or cars, chics, or even one of our buddies diagnosis of a medical condition.
see what you dont understand, is that we have built a friendship. now, its not like nikininja, or ceri, or others that are regulars send pms to one another or have a beer. sometimes they send strat bodies to have an artist
have a go at it.
now, trauma posts news that we all have heard, seen on tv.
but its all about compassion, and to remind one another, that life is short
and fragile.
so just appoligize to trauma for being insensitive about his original post.
we all will understand, that this post exploded into something that was not intended.
my dime. sorry for such a long post.

I guess you want to make it 8...Here is "my dime".....apoligize to trauma, for my opinions...you are too funny.

And why do you insist on name calling??? Why do you think one persons views are any more right than anothers??? If we all thought alike we wouldn't be humans.

Again, if you or anyone else feels the need to post "hot topics" like this one, you should EXPECT to read many different views and opinions, some you'll agree with and some you won't. I'm sorry your brain cannot comprehend both.
Oh, just a few more questions for you, did you see 14 of our own Navy ships off the coast of Louisiana after Katrina? NO.
Did you see any other country send ships with aid to the victims of Katrina? NO.
