Martian, Miami Mike had put up a link of Danny Gatton playing a Strat. Now as someone who played a tele for 13 years before I bought my first Strat and is most comfortable with the volume/tone configuration of a Tele, though I am used to a Strat just about equally. I noticed Danny had removed the Volume knob which I would believe would be for comfort.

I never thought of that till seeing this video and was wondering what would be the way to go to do this. I know the obvious would just be to remove the volume knob but he had all three pups active and that is what has me confused. I mean the volume pot was gone and there was just a hole. Can you give me an idea on doing this. Thanks

Note that I have not not seen the Gatton link of which you refer to.

I'm not sure I'm understanding your question though. Are you asking me how to rewire a Strat so that it has simply a master volume and tone pot and to where all three pickups can be on simultaneously?

Are you just trying to mod a strat. so their is just a master volume + tone pot?

Okay Martian and Cvilleira as we all know I am not very handy or mechanically inclined.lol Danny Gatton was on a video Mike put up playing a Strat that he removed the volume knob and pot from as there was just a hole which left the two lower knobs which would regularly be the tone knobs. Now I would believe he made one of them the volume and one the tone for all three pups. I was just wondering how he would wire this.

The two remaining pots could easily be reconfigured as a master volume and tone pot, wired essentially the same way a Tele would be. I'm still not sure what you mean about the pickup selection/configuration from your original post though.

Guys this was the link Mike put up http://northforksound.blogspot.com/
If you go to the name list on the right and click on Danny Gatton there is a video of him playing Harlem Nocturne/Little Drummer Boy/Theme from Perry Mason video using the Strat I am talking about. If not for anything it is just amazing to watch him.lol

I appreciate the help guys and am embarrassed that it is just going to be such a simple answer. Like I said many times I can play them but when it comes to opening up a pick guard I am lost. It was just one of those things I wanted to know now but it is no big deal as my friend Mike who does all my work is away for two weeks and he would be doing it anyway. Or else my wife would be posting I electrocuted myself on here.lol Anyway if you like DG enjoy the clip .

I thank you!

Incidentally, and just a thought: On the subject of modifying a Strat to a one volume, one tone configuration, you might want to consider doing this to one of yours where that third pot would be a no-load blender pot. You'll be able to get all pickup combinations from your Strat where you can now make it sound like a Tele too and best of all, the Strat will remain looking totally stock. Again, just a thought...

Martian thanks pal for the information so I can say exactly what I want done. I am a big fan of Gatton and that is the first time I ever saw him playing a Strat. What I meant by the volume/tone configuration I was reffering to a Tele where the volume sits right above the tone and is away from the bridge which is the most comforatable for me as the volume knob on a Strat can be a bit annoying to me till this day on certain runs. I guess that comes from playing a Tele for 13 years before getting my first Strat.lol Anyway when I saw Danny Gatton removed his volume knob I knew he did it for the extra picking room as I have similar medium sized thick hands and fingers. Funny that it is such a simple idea and yet it never dawned on me to do it. But it would just make things more comfortable as I have the bad habit of fanning out my fingers when I pick and have to slide my pinkie between knobs and that would eliminate that. Again thanks my brother from another planet.lol
