Perhaps you have a Fender Strat Contemporary?

Right - pics would be very helpful.

The body looks reminiscent of the 1983 fender bullets. They were like a student electric guitar. Perhaps someone took a strat neck and put it on a bullet body?

Mike Toe is right on the money,it is an 83 Standard Strat. They had a master tone control.According to the Fender Stratocaster Book by A.R. Duchossoir the pup specs were:No. of winds ;7800,Type of wire; .42 polysol. Resistance per coil;6.0 kOhms. Inductance per coil 2.37 Henries. Top frequency;5900 Hz. Magnetic polarity(top of pup);North.Pole pieces: protruding&flush.
The cicuitry was by way of a twin mode rotary selector instead of a second tone control. In conjunction with the rotary selector switch(5 way) this rotary control adds 4 new sounds, namely;Front& mid pups in series,Mid&back pups in series,Front&back pups in parallel,Front&back pups in parallel with mid pup in series.Anyway that's what the book says,I hope that the info is of some use.

Oops, made a boo ,the rotary switch info was for The Strat model, the pup info however is correct but I left out the"Q" measurement which was 2.3.
