Hi guys, I have a question regarding my 1986 '57 reissue.
Serial number : V006769

I've got this from a trade with an ES-339..
i have some questions regarding the specifications and parts.
my strat serial number is V006769
the neck is dated :5.9.86

according to fenderreissue.com , serial numbers that are
from V004000-V010000 denote a 1983 guitar...but the neck is dated as
5.9.86.
I've asked the owner he says that the guitar was actually released by the new fender team lead by dan smith. When on 1985, fender USA ceased production due to change of ownership, the first few instruments from late 85 to 86 in corona ,the parts and wood were utilized from the left over from the fullerton plant.

Is this true? the neck date and the body is different....
if this is true,i believe this is rare one..if not...
i dont know what to say.
please give me some answers..

The writer of the site states that dating by serial no' is a broad generality. I.e nothing set in stone about it. If your neck is dated 86 and your body is dated 85/86/87 (you dont say which) then the date of the guitar is 86 or whatever the highest year dated component is. It's not impossible but very hard to believe that anyone would be dating an 83 neck as a 86. Its far more likely that the guitar was made in 86.
I really suspect that neckplate serial no's bear no correlation to the manufacture date of vintage reissue guitars. That the neckplate system is as the vintagereissue website writer offers "they have a few thousand in a box and pluck them out as and when needed". Its the way fender customshop still serial no' the vast majority of their guitars, except for the limited run's that have the 4of25 (example) serial no's.

If you look at fenders product dating section, it gives this megre amount of info concerning VRI's
Quote:
V + 4, 5 or 6 5 digits (U.S. Vintage Series except '52 Telecaster)

For every year up to present. Infact my VRI hotrod's serial begins V017, not V2 as you would suspect if vintagereissue's author's rule was a rock solid rule. As stated by him though, its not a set in stone rule. The only reliable way to date a VRI guitar is the neck date, the body date (on the floor of the neck pocket) and the pot codes.
