And what's wrong with the shortened version of Japanese (as in MIJ Squier)? Not offensive as far as I know. If it is - in the US - why are we called a shortened version of British?!

Er - how about 'Brit', John?! We are commonly called Brits and I can't see the difference between that and the first 3 letters of Japanese.

In case it gets blocked out, I'm talking about the first 4 letters of British!

What do you think of my first electric? At $950 it joins my list of stuff I wish I'd kept!

Cheers - Peter.

Ive heard good things about both brands of strats. I have always bought American strats though so I cant attest to the Mexican ones only that I hear they are fine instruments.

Here's some food for thought. MIM guitars when they first started out, were 'Squire Series' and I owned one of them years ago. On par with Japanese Squires of the day. the level of spec hasn't changed considerably much since then... Butchers block bodies and the Japanese Squires were solid two-three piece bodies. new trem blocks.. insignificant changes compared to how USA Stratocasters are made. In fact, the old guitar I used to have had a 3 piece body- not the butcher block variety of what they use today.

Here's what I used to own.. note the differences in todays model- an extra tone knob, lower grade rosewood on fingerboard on todays model, FR1000 vs FRII bridge assembly.

I bought recently a new MIM Floyd Rose stratocaster in the same colour- expecting to buy the same guitar- I was wrong. I ended up selling it because I bought a dog & I ended up buying a Charvel instead as I saw 'Value' in it and I wasn't wrong. The Charvel is light years ahead of the below guitar..

There was once upon a time these were made..

I don't know- Ive seen this argument dragged up many times.. you are all comparing apples to oranges, and Im not saying USA guitars are better. Its like your comparing a Corolla to a Lexus and trying to draw similarities.. expecting same value & quality.

How about compare a Deluxe MIM to an American Special? because that just seems to be a more logical comparison and compare a MIM strat to a MIJ instead.. lol
