Hi guys, after checking my string height, and neck relief on my American standard Strat, i found that the relief was good, but the action height at 3/32nds. The fender how to guide suggests 4/64ths as a good action height. Since my neck relief was good, i lowered my bridge saddles, keeping the radius intact, till i had my desired 4/64ths height for all six strings. I then tuned up, and checked the action out. At first, all was great, the neck played like butter, however, i discovered that i have substantial fret buzz on pretty much every note fretted on most strings from about the 10th fret up the neck all the rest of the way up. I am at a loss as to why, i'm considering adjusting the neck angle with the micro adjustment disk thingie, but i vaguely recall seeing a comment here, regarding the use of that adjuster is a bad thing to do. well, then maybe i need fret leveling work done? Any advice here would sure be a blessing. I'm trying to learn how to be good at doing my own work on my guitar. I like to think of it as another way to help produce good music as a result of my own understanding of what makes a guitar play well, and putting that into practice, and hopefully ending up with a better playing instrument. Thanks a lot for any sage advice! :D

That is the magical question where does the buzz come from.

Take notice of your picking style and attack especially on the low E you want to see if the buzzer is you.

As a general rule if you play down and the buzz comes and goes at different points then you have uneven frets or fretboard.

I'd try to set the neck dead straight before setting the neck angle even if it is on the lower frets.

Use a straight edge and check from the first to last fret across the entire fret radius. You will need to tweak the truss rod if you still have relief set in the neck. If you notice some warping or unevenness in the fretboard you need to use a notched straight edge that measures the wood as opposed to the frets.

Once the neck is straight then you can narrow it down and check from say 9 to 21 or by using a rocker across 3 frets find high and low frets.

If you find uneven frets you either live with a high action or get a level and crown job.

If you cannot get the fretboard straight you need to look at the hydration of the neck to make sure its not swollen or too dry. If its warped you may need the neck clamped/reset or the fretboard leveled.

Lastly if everything is great and it just magically has taken on a new angle from the heel of the neck then you can adjust the micro tilt or shim the neck with wood (which is the tone purist/old fashioned method).

Thanks very much for the excellent input! I'll do as you say, it sounds like a great method!
