They're different, not better. Vintage gives a, well, vintage Fender sound (more mellow, honky) while the Hot gives a, well again, hot sound more like a humbucker I would imagine. I haven't heard the Hot pickups but that sounds about right considering the name. There is also the SCN (Samarium Cobalt Noiseless) pickup as well - which is what is being used on American Deluxes since 2004. If you can afford $20 more, I'd recommend the SCN pups.

^^^ Right - what he said - it depends on what you like or what sound you're going for. That said, the Hots use ceramic magnets so they will impart their character on the sound timbre and envelope... perhaps leaning toward a Jeff Beck sound.
