Hi all,
On my 1996 USA Strat, I find that the 2nd tone pot is a ganged(stacked) pot. I was surprised.
Was this a factory install or did someone modify this pot already?
Has anyone else ran into this?
Hope some one can help
Thanks
Jdiff

Sounds like you have a TBX tone control. The top pot is a traditional 250k pot, and the lower is a 1meg pot.

yes a simple 250k pot. It is nice that, I believe, the first tone nob controls the bridge pickup. What happens when you turn the nob? Does it control the bridge?

Yes, The center tone pot controls the tone on the neck when the switch is in the neck and in the 2nd position.
When the switch is in middle or bridge pickup position, the back tone pot controls controls the tone for those pickups.
Why would this be better than the standard wiring?

Its a Treble Bass eXpander pot, hence the name TBX. The center possition (5) is said to be the natural sound of a full on tone pot. (its not its slightly strangled, 6-7 is to my ear). From 5 down to zero it acts as a normal tone pot. From 5 - 10 it acts like a presence control.

After over a year into using one, I'm still undecided about em.
