Hello, I am interested in purchasing an approved Fender strat body off of eBay and mating it to my current mim strat. I have never done this type of project before. The body I am interested in has no holes drilled in the body. I am curious about drilling the neck holes for one and was wondering if there were any extra details I should be aware of. I am not completely new to strats and have watched several YouTube vids on assembly.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi Mdred85, welcome to the Forum.

When you say an "approved" body, do you mean a Fender licensed one? If so, I am very surprised if it doesn't have the screw holes predrilled. In fact, I can't think of a bona fide licensed maker that offers bodies that way. Care to post a link to this Ebay page so's we can have a look and pass judgement?

I'd always want to buy a neck without predrilled holes, so that I can make my own in exactly the right place for the body it was going on. Different matter regarding bodies: generally the holes in the neck derive from those in the body, so you want those in the body there first.

Of course, it is possible to work the other way around and find the hole placement from those already present in the neck. We can talk you through that process if you are unsure. Generally I wouldn't want to go about it that way, though.

(Without seeing it) I have strong doubts about this body you are looking at and its source. Go carefully...

Cheers - C
