I beg for some usefull help!!!.I own, what seemed to be"export market strat,'89 or '90"very unusual, serial# I 015299,in odd serial number it says:"Limited number of these are made for export market, very few of these may be found in the US,there's a "Made in USA" stamp at the heel of neck.It have a "bathtub" routhing body(very resonant),unusual pickups with two extra magnets beneath each bobin,500k pots, looks like a '62 or '65(?) reissue, rosewood slab, round fingerboard, one piece c shaped flamed neck,no skunk stripe, alike standard, but full-nickle 6 screw bridge(allike strat plus bridge),trans logo, nice one-screw tuners(no sign).PLEASE help me and tell me where this awsome strat is made, some referencis told me that it may was made in Japan(Fuguken-Gakki plant, but why is then a USA stamp?)(there is allso I serial in Japanise strat catalog, but these guitars have a MIJ stamp)I found that Kurt Cobain use to have one, said to be a strat special (Serial # I 006414,recorded some songs on "Nevermind"album and trash it,of course)...I dont know where and how,but this axe looks and sounds great! If anyone can tell me anything about this rare odd strat, I'll be more than greatfull.I don't know how it find it's way to Serbia, where I found it.ANY info will be a cure to my wound,I spend many thousent hours on net, searching for any info but with little results...any information, such as what wood is body made of(alder?ash?or...?),where is it made(Japan or USA),or any, will mean very much to me.THANKS ALOT,YOU ARE MY ONLY AND LAST HOPE,GOD BLESS YOU!!!(SORRY FOR MY BAD ENGLISH)

Your guitar was made at the
Fuji-gen Plant (for Fender Japan), Japan
in the Year(s): 1989 - 1990

Made in USA? Do you know if the guitar has been "whole" all its life. Maybe some parts have been changed out before.

I can relate to what supermisa says because I have the exact same question regarding my strat: I+6 digits but Made in USA stamped at the neck heel. This is a white strat, kind of '62 reissue, vintage finish, staggered pickup poles, 1 butterfly string lead, but without the fender spaghetti logo. "Made in Japan" is nowhere to see.
That's interesting to know my strat has a twin sister in Serbia.
I also thought the neck could have been replaced, but with another strat like that it's less likely now.
All this being said, this guitar is a great instrument, much better that some of my other US's. The electronic and pickups quality is so good that I tend to think it's one of these US made guitars meant for export market.

Hi guys! I was recently given one of these strats, under inspection i first thought it to be a fake strat as it just seemed sooo odd! After research i was pleased to hear that these are quite rare ;) and not fake. Mine is a white vintage finish...looks a bit like 56 reissue...maple neck...skunk line back...made is usa stamp on the neck heel. Ive contacted fender to see if they can send me any additional info or specs so i can just know a bit more about it etc i have a few guitars and had other strats before but this holds tune like no other!! I can play as full on as i like and it just stays in tune :) sounds lovely.
My serial is #i014983

IIRC. we've covered these guitars before, and I think that you are correct. Try searching the forum, and maybe you can find some of the other threads.

Just posted this info on an unusually similar post this morning, hope it helps:

I don't know much but I can research pretty well.

That is an '89-'90 Made In Japan Serial number, but I found this exception in - Fender Support - U.S. Instruments Product Dating - "odd serial numbers" (about 3/4 down the page):

I(XXXXXXX) - A limited number of these “I” series guitars were made in 1989 and 1990. They were made for the export market and have “Made in USA” stamped on the neck heel.

Guess that makes it REAL!

No it's real all right - based on the photos the OP posted in the other thread. This is yet another from the gray-area period at Fender. It's pretty much an MIJ Standard that was stamped "Made in USA" in the wood and only sold in other markets. Like those 22-fret Strats with Kahler Spyders who knows if they were assembled in Corona from MIJ parts, if some overseas distributor saw there was no "Made in Japan" decal and stamped them, or just what is going on with them as there isn't anyone still at Fender who knows the full story anymore.
