Hi, it's expensive to ship my koa stratocaster guitar on ebay the way it is. It will be much cheaper if I can shrink the dimensions and not have to waste time finding a very long box that can fit.

Do you think you find a problem of having the neck of a stratocaster removed and shipped in the same box with the body?

No as long as they are aware there is some assembly involved.
If you guitar has a shim in the neck or is vintage then its probably a bad idea.

Be really careful in the neck pocket area if yours is a tight fit when removing.

Put some masking tape across the saddles to prevent them coming loose in shipping. Wrap the neck plate and screws well also. Bubble wrapped and then tightly packed balls of news paper will stop things moving in the box.

I would just check with the buyer to make sure it's ok with him. Depending on his skill level, he might not feel comfortable putting the neck back on himself.

If he isn't comfortable doing it himself, you might have to bite the bullet and lose a little bit on shipping and ship it in a bigger box.
You can usually go to a guitar center and find a box in their recycle bin.
It's usually cheaper if the box is skinny. So if you can find one that's like 5" deep instead of like 8" it'll save you money.

when i sold my musicmaster, i took the neck off. the shipping was less, and there was much less chance of breakage.

the buyer was ok with it, and it arrived in great shape, and went back together easily

Agreed. The buyer bought a guitar as advertised and not a kit. Further, some players want no part of a guitar which has been taken apart at all. It's ALL up to the buyer on this one.

It's kind of hard to fold up a hardshell case, however.

If there's no case involved, I wouldn't mind receiving a guitar with it's neck off.

I myself wouldn't mind either, if I knew in advance. And if the seller didn't charge like $40 shipping and then paid like $15-$20 to ship it.

That's just an example. I don't know what the OP charged for shipping.

I am a bit confused on this as being someone who has bought more than my share of axes on ebay. The buyer pays for shipping and handling -not you. Unless someone is selling a very expensive ax that is the only time you will se free shipping and handling. I personally would not like it to come with the neck off and never received one that way. I did by a rare guitar that was bought as a collectors piece as the guy never played a note in his life and was just a fan of the player and the guitar was never played in 15 years. So this made me think the guy never shipped a guitar before and when I asked him I was right. So I sent him 3 sites that had videos on how to pack and ship a guitar one being from ebay and the other youtube. I have to say everything worked out perfect and he was glad for the videos as he was just going to put it in the case and ship, in which case it probably would of came in pieces.
