Don't let the name fool you. Squier makes some really nice guitars. If it sounds good to you, then that is all that really matters. Play the heck out of it. Enjoy.

Don't fall victim to "headstock label snobbery" if YOU like, and it feels and sounds GOOD then KEEP IT ! ! ! Remember it's YOU who has to play it. The Squiers are a FANTASTIC value with SUPERB tone and this looks to have great tuning machines as well as a bridge humbucker what more could you ask for ?

Take the time to learn to play, it's NOT easy nothing ever worth doing right often is. You'll get calluses, fingertips will be sore if so take a break. Try 15 - 20 minutes at a time at first until your fingetips callus over/toughen up. DO NOT play until you bleed, that's crazy.

Take it from me, I'm 46 yrs old and own mostly Squiers because not only do they sound great, they're affordable and UNDER-RATED. I'll think you'll find this fine example of Fender engineering will suit you for a long, long, time. The guitar itself with basic, proper care will last more than a lifetime.

If someone bought this or gave it to you as a gift, I'm sure they would want to see you enjoying it, so show them as you progress. I'm positive it'll put a smile on their face knowing you appreciate their thoughtful gift.

I had a Squire Tele last year and it was made well, sounded pretty good, and felt nice when I played it. Squire may be an entry level series but their a good choice if thats your price range.

You won't need locking keys. Get used to tuning it, the guitar and if the weather changes from hot to cold, humid to dry the guitar WILL go out of tune anyway. Here in the Northeast temperatures have plummeted and even with the heat on in my home I have had to tune the guitar every few days. My Squiers usually stay in tune for two weeks or more with a steady climate but any guitar will go out of tune with this crazy weather. Wait on the tuners, from what I can see yours are the same as on my Squier II from 1990, they're NOT crap and should last a long time with proper care.

Concentrate on playing, I know how tempting it can be to "accessorize" but spend that money on lessons, either online or locally. You can also get free lessons at Ultimateguitar.com, guitarnoise.com which also have downloadable tab. Guitarnoise has great beginner and intermediate songs to learn all for FREE. The pay site Guitar Instructor.com is good.

You can buy Hal Leonard books with CD's that have sheet and tab music for under $20.00 for approx 10 songs. They have many different volumes some dedicated to just one group/artist others to certain genres. They're great values and have a "slow downer" so if you play them through your comuter you can slow the tracks down. There are two tracks for each song one the song with backing and the other just a backing track. Using that system you can plug the CD into an amp and play along. I use either my mini-amp with headphones or my 15 watt when doing that, it's fantastic.

Another good value is the mini AC-30 amp that plugs right into the input of the guitar, you can input a CD into that and use the headphones to listen as you play. That's a great buy and money better spent than replacing tuning machines.

That's a great guitar! If it works, don't change anything.
