Hello guys,

I've just bought a '87 MIJ Fender Stratocaster for a incredible price: 1500 reais, if it was in U.S.A. would be around 300 dollars, cheaper than a Epi. Standard and the price of a Squier Standard.

It's made in Japan in 1987 I think, the guitar has no oxidated parts and isn't scratched and smashed as some vintages, but it definitely have a vintage look.

It has a Kahler bridge and a roller nut or something like that, and also has 3 Noiseless pups.

Here are pics of the guitar:

(if you see pics of a ME70, just nevermind)

Do you think it was a good deal? How can I know if the pickups are the Hot Noiseless or the Vintage Noiseless?

What about the bridge? Will I have problems tuning my guitar and changing strings like a Floyd Rose or it's as easy as a hard tail regular brigde?

And the thing on the headstock? What is it? What's it for?

Thanks for the answers!

I can't answer you tech questions but it looks fine to my novice eye. Somebody did some mods to it to set it up the way they wanted it. If you like it, play the hell out of it and be happy! Looks like a nice guitar. 8)

My 2¢ worth!

Eh that looks like one of the deals of the decade mate, the guitar looks great. though i would have preferred to get one without the modified bridge and locking nut,

the reason for the nut is so that you dont have to worry about tuning, once your in tune and the nut locked you can abuse that tremolo and still stay in tune.

its a nightmare tho if you break a string while playing as in you wont get it back in tune there and then you'd have to retune the whole thing by unlocking and then tuning and then fine tuning.

being honest it wouldnt cost that much to have a standard bridge installed and that thing removed and the guitar re-setup just get a fender bridge off ebay and bring it into a luthier id say

still tho nice guitar the neck looks sweet i think you've done well

Because the guitar doesn't look like it ever had string trees (no holes), I'm guessing the string lock is original, but the bridge might of been swapped out. I had a similar guitar, and I have a 87 squier, that has that same string lock, but both have the System I bridge on them.
If it did have the system I trem and they used the same post holes for it, it's futher spaced them the newer 2 post trems, so you might have to put new holes in the body if you were to switch it out.

Also I think there's a difference in the way the poles are between hot noiseless and vintage noiseless. 1 is staggered and 1 is even. I assume the vintage would be staggered, but not sure. You could look that up though.

But that's a nice guitar. I want a MIJ strat for that time, the one I had was modified and had chips in it, so i sold it. But I would like to get one in good shape.
