How much of the electronics in anything these days isn't outsourced and usually to the far east?

The finish is the difference. Poly costs a bit more to apply so the guitar costs a bit more.

I thought nitro costs more than poly. This how I see it ... The new model (compared to a Hwy1) has the less expensive poly finish, but the more premium pups. Personally, I really like this new model's configuration ...

I had always understood that the Nitro finishes cost less to produce and apply. Hmmm going to have to research it. And don't forget, they are cutting corners by using the cheapo "Vintage Style" trem too. So far I'm not a fan of the American Special. It looks like just another rehash. Maybe things will change when I play one.

If the Special is like the Hwy one it would not be a choice to me Amer.Std. all the way.

I'll admit, I'm pretty psyched about this new line of American-Made instruments. As a 16 year old guitarist, I love the idea of being able to finally afford an American build Stratocaster.

The Hwy1 has the same vintage bridge. But, yeah, the American Special is just the new Hwy 1 replacement line with a few feature changes that Fender thinks can make it a better seller. I bet they are right, too.

I agree, its that nasty paint job that flakes off when you look at it.

Check this out:

http://www.fender.com/products/search.p ... an+Special

Rosewood is an option for the HSS ones. I like the red one (SSS).

I'm also thinking for just $200 more, you seem to get more for what you paid for with the American Standard.

Agreed.Better guitar with more color/neck options.Better hardware and better case alone makes it worth it.

+1

I'd be tempted if I wasn't saving for another Fender already. My main gripe with the Highway One series was that I didn't like the pickups and I wasn't crazy about the finish. The American Specials solves both problems.
