I was just browsing through MusiciansFriend.com, and found this "American Special" series for $799.
It seemed interesting so I took a look, and I could not tell the difference between this and the Highway 1's other than the fact that these guitars use Texas Specials and have urethane finish.
Can anyone enlighten me on this topic?

Do you have a link to it?
There will not be any info on the FMIC site until next Thursday.

I just realized it's also $100 more than Highway Ones...

Maybe it uses higher quality materials plus American production?

Nope, Same specs as a highway one but with TX specials and Urethane finish. Same neck, frets, Greasebucket circuit...

You should read the post ( The end of the HWY One) on this board. You are correct it appears to be a name change of the HWY One. I guess you could call it a off shoot. You notice the price is not as high as the HWY One when in was released but is $100. more then the price it drop off to. Yes I would say most of the price is the pickups as in looks they may be the CS Texas Specials not the Tex Mex. That an the finish I don't see much difference.

These look good. :D

I was going to get a H1 HSS later this year, but will now hold off and see what the HSS version of this is like before I get anything.

In the final analysis, it means there are more choices for us, the players/customers, which is always a good thing, IMO.

The again, there's always the Deluxe Fat Strat I keep eyeing at my local Fender dealer....

Hello JTLee9153,

I didn't notice a rosewood fretboard option,
some of us are fond of this timber.
Maybe later, I hope.

Cheers.

Interesting. I notice that the HSS version only comes with rosewood, andvthe SSS version is only maple. I would hope that would change in the future, or they just want to keep eBay hopping...

Maybe more color choices down the road?

(I do not need another Strat; I do not need another Strat; I do not...)

The finish is the difference. Poly costs a bit more to apply so the guitar costs a bit more.
