I was just wondering where the 9V battery goes in the Clapton signature strat.

According to a review I read - it is under the rear plate on the guitar.

Lol, I didn't see your post, because we posted at the same time. ....How does the battery fit in there if there are all those springs?.......Does the backplate come out a bit?

Don't know - here is a quote from the review on Harmony-Central (the one dated April 24, 1998) -
http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews/Guitar/product/Fender/Eric+Clapton+Signature+Strat/10/9

Quote:
The battery assembly housed beneath the rear back-plate looks pretty cheap and flimsy. I've ordered another one from Fender for a back-up. So far no problems.

I haven't handled one myself, so I have no first hand knowledge.

I have an early Clapton Strat with Lace sensors. The battery is behind the back plate. It is held in by the back plate on mine and there is no battery "compartment". As you look at the back of the guitar in RH playing position it is in the lower left corner. I hope that helps!

that mid range boost really killed his sound. It has all the characteristics of an emg humbucker. Just muddy and kills his dynamic range. I was just listening to 'EC was here' the other day - 1974 or 75 and his sound was just incredible. There's no comparison to today.
