While I'm upgrading the pickups to Vintage Noiseless on my 2007 Fender Stratocaster Classic Player 60's MIM, I'm starting to consider a set of Fender Deluxe Locking tuners as well. But I'm not so sure that this would be a zero-modification install. I do have a Fender American Deluxe from which I can remove a tuning machine and test on the MIM. But, the MIM tuning machine also has an insert in the hole.

How do you remove the insert and is that a good idea?

Thanks,
Robert

UPGRADING ???

A CP has Custom Shop 69's.

Now you may like to change to something else, it's your guitar, but changing from 69's is just that CHANGING, not a UPGRADE !

I mean 'upgrading' as in exchanging, well, yes. :)

Subjective, I know, but I like the Vintage Noiseless pups. Have a set on the Am. Dlx (of course) and they were also stock on my now long-gone YJM Strat.

On the machine head insert - yikes. I couldn't get it to pop out and didn't want to apply undo force without possibly removing the neck and clamping it down on a workbench. I was using a small socketed wrench (about the same diameter as the hole) but the insert didn't budge.

vintage noiseless on the am deluxe? unless theyre installed at a later date, then stock are SCN noiseless not vintage noiseless.
and as for the YJM strat, probably dimarzios yjm pickups.
again i may be wrong.
just giving you a heads up.

i think vintage noiseless are great pickups, not really clean stuff.

According to the information that I could find, the SCN Noiseless were started in 2004. Before that, they were Vintage Noiseless. Mine is a 2001.

It is possible that they were DiMarzios or replaced - but it has been a while and I don't have any photos of it to verify.

If the tuners in your CP are vintage style then you could use Gotoh vintage style locking tuners without making modifications to your guitar.

The VN pups are in and sound great. Now that I know about them, the SCN pups sound like they'd, well, sound better. Maybe one day - or I'll just buy another Strat with them.

And the Gotoh vintage locking tuners are on the way.

Appreciate that information, guys! :D
