I recently made the same discovery. One of my American strats has a 3/16" truss rod. Up until then, I thought that it was etched in stone that all American Strats had a 1/8" truss rod!

I've heard it more than once on this forum..."the only thing consistent at Fender is inconsistency!" I like it though... it keeps things interesting and makes for a myriad of variation.
