Well, this ash body was custom made in Mexico City by a master luthier, and has the whole forum drooling over, try not to underestimate what can be done there.

That is one nice looking guitar VB. 8)

Not a vintage reissue because it has the trussrod adjustment at head. It looks like it has the black lining of the TR hole too which MIMs have, MIAs have a wooden lining. Looks fishy. If I'm not mistaken during those years the serials were on the front, right? I think this one is made of MIM parts and incorrect decals at best. Looks like a decent relic job though

yeah it does , but it has a Bullet truss rod Adjuster which is very easy to identify and only comes on 70s reissue guitars. It also has a scalloped neck which is unique to that guitar.

I recently purchased what I thought was a USA fender Strat. When I took it into the local music store, they said that the truss rod is not and American size, but is a Mexican size. The serial number is: N388569. It's been relic'd and was made in 1993. It says "Made in USA" on the headstock, but I'm worried that it's a fake because of the truss rod.

Can anyone tell me if Fender put Mexican size truss rods in any USA made 1993 strats?

The best way to really determine if it is an American made or Mexican made is to contact Fender directly and give them the serial number. They will tell you exactly what that guitar should be according with the serial number. A detailed pic of the guitar would be very helpful if you want forum members to determine it for you.

I'm sorry, but a serial number is so easy to fake, that it alone isn't a good way of determining if a guitar is legit. If I was to make up a Serial right now, say S942098. It would check out with Fender.

It is real I think. The Mexican made strats all have MZ as the first two letters. Right?

yeah they do but one trip to ebay and you can buy a Fender MIA rip off water decal for $7.50 ..Which really sucks but that is the way of the world..

To the OP i would have to agree with Niki and Yogi ..I also believe you have a MIM ..But with that said it looks like a good relic job...I understand wanting to know the history of my guitars and so forth..Plus i also don't like getting lied too ...But it sounds to me like you didn't get hurt on the buy..So is you like the way it plays looks and feels don't let the MIM factor bother you that much..It's still a decent guitar.....

Based on your serial number here's the answer to my research:

Your guitar was made at the
Corona Plant (Fender), USA
in the Year(s): 1993 - 1994

Have none of you noticed that the guitars of that period had the serial on the front, and the guitar he posted has it on the back? Serial number alone is not a good indicator! You have to look at other specs as well. That is clearly a decal'd Mexi or partsocaster

the serial # denotes 1993 american made, but I have to agree w/yogi. If the guitar plays/sounds good to you, I wouldn't let it bother you. I've had great MIM fenders over the years. Someone put some time and effort into the guitar, so it must be sweet.

Didn't anybody see the differing fonts of the serial # ?Image
This is a fake. And its not MIM, because it would have a MN XXXXXX serial number.

This is my 1990 Strat Ultra: Image
