I recently purchased a brand new deluxe strat and just discovered that while perfect in condition the label on the head has Stratocaster spelled as follows: "Stratocaste"...no "r" on the end! I would like to get your opinion on how this defect would affect the value of the guitar, good or bad. I really don't want to have to send it back but in speaking with someone at Fender they suggested I do so, as it would be less desiable on the used market. Others I have spoken to feel this could be a "rare bird" and actually be more desirable. I have no intention of ever selling it, but don't want to have a brand new guitar that is devalued because of this! Here is an image of it:

Ship it! lol

...I think it's a bit dodgey, and yes, the value of your guitar could be less due to that.

I personally wouldn't worry about it. If it was the "Fender" word itself that was missing a letter, then I would want something done.

Think about it this way, the value just might go up, because you now have a limited edition...LOL....(how limited they are is another question though).

Hold on to that Strat if at all possible.
That error on the stratocaster decal can make that a valuable guitar in the future. I search music stores through my travels looking for such aborittions. If you must sell, let me know the particulars and I'll make you an offer.

If it sounds good, keep it. If it doesn't return it. Unless you're a collector you shouldn't hold onto a guitar just because it's missing an "r". That's just silly.

I guess the exception is that you could sell it to a collector and use the money to buy another stratocaster.

I would be very surprised if it had any additional value. I had a Gibson Les Paul years ago where the dot in the i was missing in the GIbson logo and it did not affect the value at all. If the entire sticker was missing I could see some (although little) value. I'd sell it to the guy that said he'd make an offer :P

Thanks for all replies. The guitar itself looks and sounds great but I had been leaning towards sending it back if it would truly devalue it....just curious what everyone else would think and it appears to be a split vote! I have talked to my dealer about returning it, but haven't pulled the trigger yet and may just decide to keep it after all. This is the first professional level guitar I have ever owned and I wanted it to be perfect...but I didn't even notice it until 2 weeks after I got it...so maybe it will be my own unique strat...I have just have to stop calling my strat-o-cast-eh! :)
