I've been trying some burnished nickels from GHS, might try some of the DR pures...but I've heard of intonation issues with them.

Usually D'Addario XLs (10-46).

I like Dean Markley's Blue Steels for both guitar AND bass. They feel good have a nice, fairly long lasting tone that I like.

I have ALWAYS used some type of Ernie Ball Slinky string. No particular reason other than it was the first brand I started using and they have served me well. I have been tempted to try a set of Fender Bullets to see if they differ enough to switch from the Slinky's. I just am having a hard time deciding on an appropriate string gauge for my Strat.

I always use D'Addario XL .10s. They sound good and rarely break.

D'Addario 8-38 they allow very hard bends and whammy use and stay in tune.I find that they keep their new brightness longer than any other strings I've tried and don't corrode as quickly as others.

My Favorites are the Dean Markley Blue Steels in 9 guage, I have not been able to find a set in a while.

Right now on my Strat I am trying out a pair of Dean Markley 9 guage Jimi Hendrix Strings. I am liking the tone and they are really loud strings. They are working out pretty good.

It used to be D'Addario XL 9 - 42's.

Now it's Fender Super Bullets (same gauge).

Regular Bullets 10-46 Nickel Wounds. I like them for the way they play and they they sound. I also like D'Addario's for the same reason. I do not like using them in my Fender guitars because they can be a pain in the butt getting out when changing strings.

D'Addario XL .009-.042

I used to use GHS Boomers, but the last three sets of them that I used were really rough, almost "rusty" feeling; the D'Addarios were smoother feeling.

I also used to wrestle heavier gauges (usually .011s, but as thick as .012s on occasion!), with the logic of "heavier string, heavier tone"...then I read an interview with Billy Gibbons (one of my favorite guitarists of all time, and nobody can deny HIS heavy-osity!); he stated that he uses gauges as light as .008s!

BFG said he had previously used really heavy gauges (with the same reasoning as I used), but the King himself (BB, not Evv-vis) said, "If you want it thicker, there's a knob that says 'tone' on your amp...turn it toward the bass end."

I switched over to .009s, and was amazed at how easy it was to play...and I could get those squanky little pinch harmonics without beating the tar out of myself...pushed back the carpal tunnel problems at least two decades.

...and I didn't lose a bit of the girth, because BB was right; tweak that bass knob just a touch, and it comes right back!

PS--I keep the action extremely low on all my guitars, even though I play a lot of slide; I just have to adjust my left hand attack a bit.

I personally think that how high one's action is and the guage of string play a lot into the tone achieved.
I play blues/jazz/rock/alternative and I really prefer a lot of tone in my sound.
I like Elixer 10's polyweb so far, and have tried Ernie ball regular, slinky, and super slinky. I have never tried D'addario XL's.
The reasoning against Ernie ball strings is that I have found that with my playing my strings last 2-3 weeks. with Elixer's they last 6-7 weeks.
