If you want metal on a budget and controlable volume for home use, theres only one way to go. Peavey.

You'll spend thousands getting a convincing big marshall valve sound at home volumes. It will likely cause a lot of fights with your folks too whilst you learn to tame it. The AVT range is a real winner for a good modern metal tone on a budget too. And you dont have to turn the AVT's up to 8. Dont even worrry about half or fullstack. 2x12 is more than enough for home use. You'll get all the bass response you need. Avoid 1x12 marshall combo's. A single celestion G75 can be a bit boxy sounding, the main problem with the blues jr. I'm sure that speaker was only ever designed for multi-speaker cabs.

sorry no band rehearsalls over the holidays and I've been stuck with a blues jr. I'm really missing my marshalls.

I used 50 W amps for years gigging,a Marshall 4210 !-12 Combo and a 2204 half stack both JCM 800s they have plenty of volume for all but the biggest rooms and both can give you heavy crunch. You may find the 40W Haze plenty loud for your needs,it's a great little amp.

You could get a new 25R Fender Frontman combo amp at GC for 1/3 the price of that old tube amp. It should be loud enough for you and get you by till you can afford a new tube amp.

Just my opinion but I think that you would be happy with it.

Good luck,

Tagg

Kid, I'm assuming you're in Austin (due to where the Craig's List listing was from)...

Get your butt down to Lamar Blvd, hit every one of those guitar shops in one afternoon.
If your mind isn't too sharp, take you a little notebook and write down which ones you like.
Talk to the guys in the shops, tell them what you want (tubes, loud enough for gigs but quiet enough for home practice, able to get grungy, then your price range).
Play everything in the shop, and don't look at the name or brand, or what it even looks like...LISTEN TO THE AMP, AND MAKE UP YOUR OWN DANG MIND!

Also, don't get hung up on price...if you can't afford it right this second, get a job and start saving up for it.

You keep asking, "What should I buy, what do you think?", but you don't know what YOU want...

...figure out what YOU want, and then start working towards getting it.

thanks armadillo thats what i shall do. but i have an idea cause even if its the perfect tone i need it to probably have a wattage switch to hcnage the wattage so i can use it at the house where i practice at. So my mind is actually on the vox VT100 cause it has everything i need like a headphone jack and a ton of sounds and a wattage switch so that i could gig do band practice and bedroom practice with it. so all i need to do is trying it out. and should i ask if i could buy the demo amp? cause maybe they will give me a discount
