Hi all,

Hope this hasn't been dealt with before. Apologies if it has and I've missed it. I have a sonic blue Classic Player 60's Strat and I always give it a wipe down after playing. But, the area where my arm rests on the shoulder of the guitar is kind of hazing. It doesn't come up with the shine that the rest of the body has. I don't want to use the wrong thing on it. So far I've only tried a silicone-free beeswax polish (lightly) with a microfibre cloth and it hasn't made much difference.

Any advice gratefully received!

Ant

Apparently, bodily fluids have built up on there to the point where all waxing as a first resort will do is add to and oftentimes, fortify the gunk. Apply a bit of naptha (regular lighter fluid) to a rag and gently rub the stain until the gunk disappears. No, this won't affect a polyester finish.

Obviously, take all necessary precautions as naptha is INFLAMMABLE.

After you've accomplished this, wipe the area with another damp rag of warm water in order to remove any naptha residuals; dry the area with yet another rag and let it air dry even further for about 20 minutes or so just to be on the safe side. At this point, you should be able to buff it gloss just like the rest of the body.

Worked a treat! Much better now. :D

Just out of curiosity, is this something I should do regularly, as my usual wipe-down obviously hasn't prevented the sweat build-up in the past, so therefore I doubt it will in future?

As you know, there really isn't much you can do realistically to prevent sweating on your guitar, especially in that area. So, when you see it headed in that gunky direction again, apply the naptha and repeat the whole aforementioned routine.
