If Fender would change the headstock, I'd be interested in this guitar. Maybe they won't because it would take from their standard American series guitar. Why pay more when you get the same for less?

Seems to me to have the same specs as the Hwy 1, but with the far superior Texas Specials and a gloss paint job. I'm glad they are putting the TS in this body style. To me, the only thing lacking on the Hwy 1 was the Alnico III's and the nitro paint. I cant wait to play the new American Special.

I had an '04 Highway One Tele & a Strat. Swapped both for an '04 American Series Tele. Although some will be sceptical, from my point of view I did well.

I actually really like the tubby headstock on my HWY1. It gives the guitar some originality, at least. The chubster neck feels amazing in my larger hands, too. Who likes my adjectives today?

I hope they become discontinued; I'd cherish the one I have even more.

Am I alone in liking the stock pups in the Highway 1?

I really like 'em a lot, and although I can understand that if people want a more "classic" or "vintage" tone, then the Alnico 3's won't really suit, I'm not sure why people seem to dislike them so much. Or is the pursuit of vintage style tone the only thing that turns people off them?

Tornado the Hwy One just has a regular modern C neck with 9.5 radius The fat head does not make the neck a chunky baseball bat neck. It does have those monster size frets.

even though i love the hwy 1, i believe the am std, is slightly better axe.
imo not by alot, just the shape of the headstock, and bridge, the pickups are cool too, but like both the same. some days one more than the other.

I bet they're making a p and jazz bass for this series. It would be nice if they came out with more color options for the guitars

Yeah, everything you want in a guitar . . . except the good 2 point trem system of course. You want to save a few bucks so here have the cheapy "vintage style" trem.

Many pros like EC prefer the vintage bridge for what it's worth!?!?

well, this is a divisive subject indeed and I have just bought a 2009 hw 1 sunburst for £499 in the sale so a good deal price wise. the frets off the shelf were poor though and will need leveling and polishing before the action is anywhere near playable. finish however is great, i too love the giant 70s headstock overall once the minor probs are sorted this should be a great guitar, i had a mim classic 60s style one that was cool too but this one feels the real deal, it could be a "made in usa " thing, let's wait and see what is sounds like once I have tweeked it......

Yeah, the fire sale days for the Hwy 1 are coming soon. I am really leaning to picking one up cheap when the time comes ... although it will have to be a 'burst finish for me.

Also -- count me in as one who digs the big headstock. Both size headstocks look cool to me.
