Alot of people don't like the satin nitro finish on the Highway 1.

I didn't like the satin much. I rubbed mine out to a glossy finish.

Mine has a slight shine to it as well. Never put polish on it, just wiped it down with a micro-soft fiber cloth after each use.

I don't think it will replace the HWY1...... You can preorder the American Special from MF, and it goes for 799. A bit more than the HWY 1, I assume if the HWY 1 were to be replaced then it would be with a equally priced (approximately) guitar. The Hwy 1s always seem to move at my local store, so I don't know why they would replace it. How old is the model anyways?

The Highway Ones came out in the Summer of 2002, IIRC.

The first Frontline to display them was the 2003 edition.

About the cost I thought, It may replace HWY One. The extra cost is most likely do to the change to Texas specials more then finish and such.

The current versions, though, came out in late 2006. (just being pedantic - 8) )

Yeah, everything you want in a guitar . . . except the good 2 point trem system of course. You want to save a few bucks so here have the cheapy "vintage style" trem.

Yeah, but it's still just a matter of opinion. Personally, I prefer the vintage style tremolo, cheapie or not.

I remember when all you could get on a Fender Stratocaster was either the 6 point tremolo or hardtails. If you wanted a 2 point, you had to either special order one, or outfit one on your exhisting one. 2 point or vintage does not matter to me as long as it works.

Yup RK my first Strat (a 74 which I still own) has the vintage trem. My HM Strat has the Kahler Spyder, My Fender Talon has a Floyd Rose, and my American Standard has the 2 point trem and locking tuners. My only real issue with the the vintage trem is that it is old tech. There's better stuff out there so that's what I prefer to use.

I wonder why the cheapie trem is featured on the most expensive guitars and used by people that dont have to pay for anything?

Doesn't seem much of a difference. Better pickups, but the Texas Specials are now almost a standard pickup installed. If Fender was to do it right, they would of stopped using the '70's headstock. Keep the Highway 1 with the 70's look and let the American Special look like an affordable regular American Strat.

Yep. That would be a great marketing idea.

I'm afraid I'm a bit confused about the new Am Specials. The ad describes them as the "value line" of AM guitars, but they are more expensive than the Highway 1s that I already can't afford. :(
As it is a Mex Standard just jumped slightly out of reach.
They do look cool though.

i hear you brother,
when i was down and out, i saved about 20 bucks a paycheck, for a few mos, then completed for a 200 dollar ibanez.
then saved up for almost 6 mos for my hwy 1, in 06.
take your time with it, my advice is get the guitar you want and if you dont have the funds, try saving a few bills here and there. youll eventually get there.
