My wife gave me a 50th Ann. Deluxe for my 50th in 04,mine will probably increase in value because the pickguard is signed by Marty Stuart and The Fabulous Superlatives but that doesn't matter because I'll never let it go.It's an absolutely incredible guitar even confirmed Gibsonites concede that it has amazing tone.

Just wondered if any of you guys had noticed your 50th Ann guitars as being significantly heavier than your other strats?

Mine has always seemed very heavy - just weighed it and it comes in at 4.9 kg/10.8 lb ! I have a Squier CV 60 which weighs around 7.5 lb and my other strat would weigh approx same I would imagine (haven't got it here to check it).

I know it's ash compared to alder in the CV 60 but I didn't think it would make that much of a difference?

Cheers

No but thats my next port of call. Pickups and scratchplate on mine. I had bought it just to throw under the bed and forget about it. I find myself unable to do that though. If its gonna be played the scratchplate has to go and I've a customshop with SCN's and S1, so the SCN's may as well go too.

If I could make my mind up about a pickup I'd be on it.

My ash Tele is exactly that weight. I've played lighter LP's. Mike Eldred said that the masterbuilders usually prefer heavier woods for their tonal response.

oh, my one and only Fender Stratocaster
a black '96 Fender Traditional Fat Strat with rosewood fretboard
is around 15 years old this year
I bought it new in 1998
the guitar was like the status of my wife
until the status being replaced by my Mazda Astina BG which I bought used
and since year 1996 was the 50th anniversary for Fender company
the Strat does have a gold " 50th Anniversary" sticker behind the headstock
:)

nikininja,
I'm thinking the same thing. I can't decide between a black-white- black pickguard and a pearl (off-white) one. As for pickups, I'm leaning heavily toward Rumpelstiltskins, since Aaron will wind the pickups according to what you are looking for. While I love the guitar and the scn's are fine pickups, I miss the chime and sparkle of other strat pickups.

I'm exactly the same. There's a pickup maker 30 miles from me, who winds a PAF like no other. I had chance a month ago to compare one of his pickups in a LP against a genuine 58. I couldnt hear any difference. I'm trying to get him to make me some strat pickups. I can never get hold of him though. Its a big source of frustration. I dont just want some run of the mill pickups that 20,000 other people have. All my guitars are individual, set up differently and used for different things. Why shouldnt my pickups suit? Do I ever have to trudge this bland road to the town of everything the same as everything else.

I reckon I'd keep the s1 switch though. That things fantastic. Its so discrete and offers so much variation.

I have this guitar as well and really can't find anything that it needs IMHO... I guess it has all that I need... ok, perhaps a 25dB active pre... would be nice but really not necessary. I'll just have to score a good deal on the Guy strat with 25dB pre! 8)
