Quick question. Looking at buying a guitar, being a deluxe plus.

The serial number is N3143050

I thought deluxes had a d in the front?

the ad is

http://sydney.gumtree.com.au/c-Stuff-fo ... Z106683263

If this isnt a deluxe plus, what is it?

Any other comments about this guitar? Good/bad, etc?

Are those locking tuners, or not?

All help much appreciated!

Looks like an ordinary Strat Plus to me. You are correct, a deluxe sn should start with DN.....etc.

If I were you, I'd send the serial number to consumer relations. I have done this on three different occasions and have received all information about each guitar in less than 24 hours.

I thought that about the serial number, but i read this on another site

Also it is interesting that even though these are Deluxe Strat Plus', they do NOT have serial numbers that start with a "D" for Deluxe. That was commonly seen on the Deluxe American Strats, but the prefix was not used on the Plus Series (except in 1999 with the Plus hybrid American Deluxe Strats.)

In 1995 Fender moved the serial numbers from the front to the back of the headstock.

The strange thing about fender is that it likes to make things very , very, vERY VERY hard to know what model just by the serial number.

Thanks for the tip about fender customer relations, never thought about that, will be interesting to see what they come up with!

Thanks.

So, how does one find out about which model something is?

It just seems soooooo rediculous that there is not something to denote whether something is a standard, deluxe, highway one, etc etc in the serial number

How does one decide whether it is a standard deluxe, or a deluxe plus,l if not by serial number alone?

ALmost all of the delux plus models i have seen on the web have that nice pearl finish on the scratchplate, whereas the deluxe models seem to have the normal white scratchplate.

(note- my bad tone is NOT directed at those in the forums, more to the makers at fender!)

The website www.xhefriguitars.com cited in the sellers posting is likely the Olympus of information sources on these guitars. This is really not an issue to address to the company. The instrument in question has been modded, and in this instance, less the Lace sensors, you have a hybrid guitar. It really should not be sold under its stock name.

Personally, if a Strat Plus is what you want, there are certainly far superior sources that the one you've perused currently and xhefriguitars would certainly be the place to start.

Have a look at his collection.

Hey Doctor Paul,

The strat you see is legit. although I am not sure the blonde colour is common. the bridge is period correct floyd rose, and the serial stacks up fine.

as Xhefri says on his website- "when it comes to Fender- inconsistency is the rule of thumb."

If the deal includes the Lace Sensors the go for it. There is no reason why it should be in my opinion illegitimate.

The strat looks to me, by way of the serial and LSR nut- made mid to late 1993. (serial#: N= made in nineties, followed by 3= 1993) Pearloid pickguards didnt appear till later in 94. If the neckplate says "Corona, Calif" then thats a sure sign the neck/body has been changed out. Check my '93 out for yourself:

http://www.fender.com/community/forums/ ... hp?t=32015

The price is almost on the mark- negotiate on that. You can get one cheaper in our NZ/AU market im sure- although if it feels right, just go for it anyway.

You have my word.

I hope Mondo500 or Xherfri see this post and comment.

Cheers Mate :)

Howdy! Fender never used the D prefix on the serial number for a Strat Plus DX. If this guitar had the Blue, Silver, and Red Laces Sensors, and since it does have the Floyd Rose II bridge, it was a Strat Plus Deluxe in a transparent Blonde finish....which is WAY OVER PRICED I might add!

These are also not solid Ash, but Ash laminate on Alder, thus the solid color on the edges. You can find better on eBay or other sources!

I thought that price sounded high too.

I would expect to pay $1600-$1800 $NZD. which converts AUD $1200-$1600, or $USD $1150-1280.

Remeber that market prices aren't universal, it really depends on the region/country.

I would say that these guitars are bound to supply/demand too, which will greatly influence price- especially on these models.

I keep an eye on ebay.com.au, they certainly dont come up often. I saw a 94 anniversary model go for the same price, in a special blue burst. the guitar that Dr Paul refers to will have to be absolute prime mint :)

Out of interest Dr Paul, are you in NZ or Australia?

Another question

What is the difference between a strat plus deluxe and a strat dx?

Also, QUESTION FOR XHEFRI- do you sell any guitars?

Yours is an awesome site, and i am looking for something along the lines of what we have been talking about here, but with a pearl scratchplate. Obviously would have to ship here, so i need a decent case, or get you to unbolt the neck. I will pm you my email addy.

btw, if anyone else is selling something like this, please pm me!

Also, should i get a standard trem, or a floyd rose? i heard the floyd roses are harder to work with

Have you seen his build thread at the top of the Strat Forum. Also....there's an email contact on his Forum where all your questions will likely be answered more directly. Include your personal email address. I have communicated with him in said fashion with great success.
