Hi, i remember reading in this forum something about needing to use the same gauge strings as what the guitar was set up for at the factory. in a list i got from fender consumer relations, my 97' american standard strat is listed as having fender super bullet 3250l's (.009 to 042) installed. this suggests to me that if i put "10's" on it, the trem will need adjustment or replacement springs? I bought it used, and as such i have no idea what's on it now. it stays in tune after using the whammy bar as it is right now. i am used to DR tens, so i'd like to use them if i can. i use DR's mt-10 (10 13 17 26 36 46). anyway, i'm hoping to mooch sage advice from some of you good people. Thanks very nuch indeed in advance for your most kind efforts. it really is a privilege to be able to get so much knowledge from those of you who have already learned so much, and are willing to freely share the wealth. Not that's is a big deal if you do the work yourself ( HIGHLY SUGGESTED)
but going to the 10's ( if it had 9's).

Most likely:

trem ( tighten spring claw some)
re-set neck relief
action
intonation

Dave,

That's a marketing strategy to stoke the player's paranoia, ensuring that you continue buying Fender strings. Sight unseen and after all these years, I can say with a confident degree of certainty that odds are, this subject guitar of your's isn't in accordance with Fender specs even if the recommended string set was used from 'day one'.

Not to worry. Install the brand and gauge string set of YOUR choice. If the guitar truly goes out of whack, we'll help you right out.

It's like that old TV commercial tag line; the old geezers here like myself will surely remember it: "We have the technology!"

Thanks Martian for your good aswer. I was indeed under the impression that changing from "9's" if they are 9's, to "10's" would wreak havoc. I've really got to say, that this forum is not only an absolutely a wonderful place to not only gain a tremendous amount of knowledge very quickly, but also an amazing degree of comraderie. I am so glad i discovered this venue! I definitely fir into the catagory of old geezer, i'll be 57 on groundhogs day. I am however very new to fender strats and teles, what a wonderful love affair with a pair of awesome instruments i have found myself in!
