I was at a music store recently and there hanging on the wall was a beautiful classic players 60s model for under $600 (used). Is this a good deal and what do others think of this guitar? By the way it seemed to be in great shape.

I bought one about a week ago and was curious if the pick-up's in this model are exactly the same as the Custom Shop 69's or replicas like the Duncan Designed pick-up's found in some guitars.

Regardless, it sounds great and is a very good bargain. My only complaint is with the neck, which for my taste is too big. I like the smaller C shaped neck used on the American Strat's.

Oh yeah, and how in the world do you adjust the truss rod for neck relief? There's a screw at the bottom of the neck, but the wood from the body of the guitar covers half of it.

Mine has just a tad too much relief not to mention I'd like to switch from the 10's that came with it to 9's.

the pickups are custom shop designed wich means they are not signed by abby and to adjust the neck you need to take it off...

Where did you read they're Custom designed? If that's the case then Fender needs to update their webapage as this is misleading. Here's what I copied from their product page "3 Custom ‘69 Single-Coil Strat® Pickups with Grey Bobbins". Notice no mention of designed. I wonder what the differences are?

I was kind of afraid that removing the neck was going to be required for the truss rod adjustments. This is a pain as how in the world are you supposed to know if you have it right?

I guess you have to leave the strings in place, pull the neck out of the pocket, make an adjustment, put the neck back on, tune to pitch, measure and repeat this process until you have it right?

Imitation pick-up's and this truss rod configuration makes this guitar a bit less attractive for sure. I guess this is why I got such a bargain. I mean the real cs-69 p/u's are over two hundred bucks for a set. I guess I should have know, but I thought they were real as this guitar normally sales for ~ $799 street.

Oh well, it's like the old saying goes; you get what you pay for. The pick-up's in this gutar sound great, I can only imagine what the real deal sounds like.

Thanks for repsonse. I appreciate it.

the pickups is nearly the same deal theyre just made in mexico not in usa so dont worry
and i dont see a problem with the neck adjustment but if you are gonna do that by yourself: remember that you wont notice anything immedently you have to wait for a while after you screwed the trussrod before the neck curves or flatten out

If you read here http://www.fender.com/products//search.php?partno=0141100372 it says "Special features include '69 pickups, "Custom Shop Designed" neckplate" so they mean that the neckplate is custom shop designed not the pickups.

I've serched high and low for the thread and can't find it. The pick-up's and Classic Player 60's guitar is disscussed numerous times, but for tht life of me I can't find the thread that proves these are not the same pick-up's.

I did fin a thread where another guy asked the same question and you said they were Mexican made, but that's it.

Can you help? Does anyone from Fender participate in these forums?

I know the Classic Players 50's are the same, so I assumed the 69's would be as well. Both guitars are priced the same, but the 50's has the locking tuners. The 69's cost a bit more than the P/U's used in the 50's if bought after market, but I figured the cost of the locking tuners off-set this.

Thanks.

i ain't fussed either way, they sound great regardless where they were designed or made, it really doesnt matter to me.
best way to approach and truss rod adjustment is to near fully undo the bottom two screws on the neckplate, then the top two enough to give some freedom for the neck to 'hinge' back so to speak. its what i was told for this truss rod arrangement.
