I performed a "set-up" today on my standard strat.

It's never had one and I didn't really want to pay somebody to do something
that I could and should learn how to do being a guitar owner.

What was all so mysterious and scary to me about working on my guitar faded away as I did a little research on what steps are involved.

I rounded up the few tools needed and went for it.

I'm really glad that I learned this skill. It makes owning and playing my guitar even more fun and enjoyable.

When you're experimenting just remember a little goes a long way.

Welcome to the world of doing your own setups.

Ya if you get into this more, you will find it is therapeutic! I really enjoy working with a guitar from top to bottom until it has the magic feel!

I will be posting a thread where I will be doing a custom Strat build from top to bottom in a week. It should run for several days. Be watching.

Very nice. How do you think it compares to a Pro Set up?

BigJay it's interesting for me to learn how the guitar works. I've always changed my own oil...changed my own flat tire....know what I mean?

Well maybe someday I'll build one from scratch. When I was younger I built an eight foot El Toro racing dingy from scratch. A guitar would be challenging, but do-able. It wouldn't take up as much project room as the boat did! :D

Thanks

cvilleira, lol, compared to a pro set up mine was way cheaper. Other than that I really can't say.

All I know is that for me, I know exactly what adjustments have been made and I set everything to what Fender recommends. Exactly. If I get a buzz or something I can fix it.

One thing I did find out is that bending strings 1, 2, and 3 is way easier when they are all adjusted to the proper height. :) In fact it just feels better overall.

So anyhow I'm happy with my set up, can tweek things if it becomes necessary, and saved some money. Gotta like that.

Thanks,
