I bought my first strat! MIM standard strat and has great fit & finish. I have gone to the Fender guitar dating page and no luck since they have not updated anything beyond 2005. The page says two initiials and 5 digits. Since my new strat starts MZ7 I figure MIM 2007. But my problem is that the rest of the serial number has 6 digits not 5. Serial number is MZ7094057. Any ideas on what I bought?

Also just an fyi I went back and forth on MIA vs. MIM. Found an MIM that was a quality build so I figure eventualy put in some new pick ups and save a few $. You can find a quality MIM. Just have to visit a few stores and try several of them out. Thanks in advance for any help on the serial #.

My original 2002 MIM had MZ2 and 6 digits after it

M = Mexican
Z =2000
7 = year 7 (2007)
the rest of the numbers are the individual serial identification number, nothing of interest to be found in them.

I went almost the same route, but by the time I added up all the changes I wanted to make (new pups, saddles, tuners, bridge block) I was only a couple hundred short for the MIA deluxe I ended up with :)

The QMT body on my MIM was really nice!
But the neck just did not feel or play as nice as the American.
And the S1 switching options on the American are a nice feature too, not sure if S1 is available on MIM's

I agree with Bluestube visit stores and try out many different ones until you find something you like!
I drove the stores nuts for a while both before and after I bought the MIM then again when I returned to trade it for a MIA a month later.

"How would I find the date?"
