hey guys,

after spending many months looking for guitars i figured it could be a good idea to try and scallope my old squier stratocaster neck, or buy a cheap neck and try scallope it.
any of you guys have experiece in scalloping necks and could tell me if it a difficult process or not? not sure how much it would cost to have a luither do it but my guess is alot.

Cheers,

Larsson

Have you ever played one? Full or graduated?

Warmoth, USACG, and Musikraft all make them and do a good job.

To me, it's not a difficult process at all. Anyone can ruin a good fingerboard this way. A steady hand, a reliable caliper and a goodly sized selection of drum sanders will ensure uniformity. Don't go too deep now and remember to protect those frets!

Scalloping is a very delicate job and requires a skilled hand and a good eye.Any kind of detailed woodworking can quickly turn a good piece of wood into kindling,I'd advise you to try on scrap pieces of maple or some other hard wood before attempting it on a neck.

I just played the Yngwie guitar the day before last and I just couldn't get used to it.

Good luck, and I hope its what you really want, and that it works out for the best.

Yes, it's worth it if you can do it right. My friend did this to 4 of his cheap guitars and ended up with 1 working.
